SEC-S16 / W5 | " Ancient Medicine"🌍👩⚕️
I'm delighted to participate in this SEC-16 / W5 contest. This is a journey through the annals of time. "Old is gold" they say, that's why i want to unravel the mysteries of marvels of ancient medicine. Ancient or traditional healers did a great job back then because their wisdom continue to resonate in today's medical landscape giving a helping hands to modern healers.
I can vividly remember when i was a child, i had this stomach pains that almost took away my life. What saved me? There's this herbal concoction made by my grandfather and it's of great benefits till date, that alone safe my life after taking a sip of it. Will you not be excited knowing some of these herbal medicine?

In ancient Nigeria, the use of traditional medicine for ailments was prevalent. Some of these natural medicine were roots, herbs and stems. Traditional medicine in ancient Nigeria also involves spiritual beliefs and the practice evil, such as ritual and misusing of blood all in the purpose of restoring back health in humans.
Traditional medicine in ancient Nigeria was so holistic because of the spiritual practices involved. Some of these spiritual practices all in the aim of restoring health are enchantment, consultation of Oracles, setting a trap on the ground using some animal shells like snails.

Many ancient remedies performed in Nigeria have shown efficacy and because of its effectiveness, it's respected around it's region. In my honest opinion, using herbs, roots and stems or tree shell to cure any ailments isn't bad because it was very effective, even when cooking i do apply some of these leaves in my food to make it nutritious and healthy.
My belief in that aspect is right because God instructed the people of Israelites to use such medicine for their ailments the same thing implies to the Egyptians, though their knowledge was deeply rooted in spiritual and rituals for cure.
In my honest opinion, i do not back or utilize the use of ancient medicine for ailments such as spiritual practices like rituals and blood related practices because those strategy of remedy can interface to our soul and mine which will influence our physical wellbeing.
People have different beliefs, some believe that rituals or any spiritual or blood related practices are the best, maybe due to their state of health sometimes it requires advanced treatment, so they'll have no other choice but to respect the spiritual aspects of it instead of herbal treatment.
¿Can you describe some elements they used at the time? What was the special use of each one? |

| Newly burnt ashes | This is one of the elements used at that time for some ailments. The special use of this element was for rashes and cleaning or washing of the body system which we now know as drip. This fresh ashes will be mixed with leaves like mbritem, Owolowo and awakmmoñ and it'll be preserved for 3 days in a cold water before using it to porch. Just as the name of the element "ashes", it cures rashes. |

| Bitter leaf | The special use of this particular leaf is for diabetic patient and for minor wounds, maybe a cut from a knife or machete. Just as the name implies "bitter", when it gets into our open wound it works instantly when we feel some itches. The open wound become bitter and start closing gradually, our wound is healed within few days. A diabetic patient taking this regularly will get rid of such sickness because the sickness occur as a result of excess sugar, so bitter elements or substance is the best cain to beat it. |
| Shawa shawa leaf | The special use of this leaf was for malaria and typhoid treatment and it's still effective till date. Most people fold it into a dry plantain leaf, smoke it and inhale it. Regularly inhaling it after smoking it for once will get rid of the malaria and typhoid because it works when you sneeze, and believe me there's no way you'll inhale substance like that and you won't sneeze. It works like magic. |

Some of the ancient medicine was taken through porching process like the one I'm about to create a scenario about. You cut the leaves, wash them, grind it using your stone, fill in water into the bucket, filter it and dispense into the jug you'll be using for porching and you're ready to take the ancient medicine through your anus. Below are pictures of the scenario I'm talking about.

The use of herbs, tree shell, roots and stems was the best and most effective ancient medicine in Nigeria and it's still effective till date. Modern medicine are extracted from the herbs and root used in the ancient days, so this simply shows how effective ancient medicine are.

You got better by taking an herbal ingredient for your stomach ache. Ancient medicines are still used well in your country. If we know the proper use of ancient medicines, we can stay healthy with natural ingredients at hand.

Ancient medicine is still effective till date as you said, whoever that have benefited from ancient medicine like you will no doubt trust in its potency, I have heard of so many wonders of ancient medicine that modern medicine where not able to do. I find it interesting how they also had spiritual beliefs connected to these remedies even though some might not agree with all of them.
