Choices! What will it be? #49
Elephants are said to be the largest land animal in the world, the elephant also has the largest ears and hears with it's feet.
Elephants can drink up to 40 gallons of water at a time. Their trunks are like super strong noses, they can lift up to 750 pounds and are sensitive enough to pick up a single blade of grass.Elephants are very social creatures, they live in herds of females and their young. Elephants have amazing memories and can recognize other elephants they haven't seen in years, even decades. Elephants communicate with each other through low-frequency sounds called rumbles that can travel for miles.
- For many years, elephants were captured and trained to perform in circuses.
- In some cultures, elephants were symbols of power and royalty, Kings and queens would ride them in parades and ceremonies.
- Elephants have also been used for labor throughout history, helping to move logs, clear land, and even participate in warfare.

The elephant's trunk is a marvel of evolution. It's an extension of the upper lip and nose, containing over 40,000 muscles. This incredible tool allows them to breathe, smell, trumpet, drink, bathe, and manipulate objects with incredible dexterity.Trunks are also used for social interaction, greeting each other with trunk touches and displaying affection.
There are three living species currently recognised;the African bush elephant (Loxodonta africana), the African forest elephant (L. cyclotis), and the Asian elephant (Elephas maximus).
Elephants are said to be going extinct because of the constant abuse they face, hunters killing them and using their skins, trunks and horns as artifacts and others killing them because they see them as threats.
The elephant is also the only animal with the highest gestation period ranging from 18 to 26 months. Can you imagine carrying a child for upto two year? The baby elephant also called juvenile is always hairier than the adults. It can stand immediately it is born and can join the mom in her daily activities a few days after birth.
A Story |
---|
My teacher once told us a story of how three blind men went into the forest and came in contact with an Elephant, which they had never seen before because they had always been blind, they heard loud rumblings and being blind did not know what that was but decided to use their other senses to detect wat animal it was,so they all went close to the Elephant and decided to touch it at different parts of it's body in order to try and tell what it was,the first blind man touched it's large legs but couldn't tell what it was,the second man touched it's trunk but couldn't tell what it was,the third man touched it's ears but also couldn't tell, this went on for a while, they kept on touching Different parts until they got tired and went back to their huts, the Elephant then walked away. These men kept wandering what it was that they encountered until it was sunset and they fell asleep. They were left with different opinions of what it was up until this day they still are trying to figure out what it was that they encountered.
The End.
The story above titled "The Blind Men and the Elephant," essentially conveys how different perspectives and limited or lack of knowledge can lead to differing conclusions
