Tell your story #28: TIME and CHANCE
Two peculiar events happened around me recently.
I had just left the house when I received a WhatsApp call from my sister requesting my immediate assistance.
She wanted me to help Edna.
Edna is a young entrepreneur who had a pile up of work to complete before Christmas. Like most newbies, she lacked some basic tools that could boost her productivity and fetch her more profit.
Even though I already had some of the necessary equipment and would not be using them right away, I was afraid to lend them out.
The equipment currently costs about 9x my salary. If Edna should mishandle them, that would be a great loss for me.
My sister reassured me that everything would be fine. So, I decided to take this risk.
That's women helping women. You agree?
I invited her to my house, interviewed her a bit, and when satisfied, reinvited her to come pick up the items. Edna hugged me so tightly when she heard this news and this warmed my heart.
The next day, I got a call from a random stranger who thanked me for helping her daughter. The woman in question turned out to be a distant cousin from my mother's side whom I had never met until that day.
I was only able to discover this because the lady kept her maiden name after marriage for professional and personal reasons, which is legally acceptable in my country.
I was so excited to connect with my new found cousin.
You would agree that life happens, and that opportunities show up when we least expect them. Just as in the case of a certain girl named Favour who performed at the Akwa Ibom State Christmas Carol on Friday, 13 December 2024.
Favour, the soloist who performed with the Harmonic Voices Chorale International at the event, certainly had no idea that the crowd would be so spellbound by her mellifluous voice and charming smile while singing "I will give thanks to thee” by Gioachino Rossini.
But then something happened: she hit a minim note so wonderfully. I watched the audience go overly excited. It reminded me of the wonderful Maria from The Sound of Music. The governor was so thrilled by her performance that he rewarded her with a ₦2 million naira gift.
You would agree that the random events that happen around us are influenced by time and chance, and these can lead to surprising outcomes. These experiences remind me that life is full of so many unexpected connections and opportunities, and that I should always make the most of the ones that come my way.
Who knows, you could get that one big vote tomorrow, or you could just land that dream job you have always wanted.
You could find out by always putting yourself out there.
Goodluck, ladies!
