CONTEST! Choices! What will it be? #11
My dear @patjewell, I closed my eyes and thought about your topics. All of the words danced in front of my eyes. Earring, hum... they go very well with ladies. Then I moved on to eggs, which are high in protein and are always engaging with us. Then there's the telephone, which is an essential item in today's world. How can I ignore that? Then I moved on to snakes, which I truly hate because they are venomous and extremely dangerous reptiles. Finally, I stopped at Gold. The world’s most durable, and unchanging item as well as my preferred method of saving. If I have gold, I can make earrings, and I can buy eggs and telephones. If I am exposed to snake toxins, I can be cured if I have gold. Therefore, I choose the word GOLD without hesitation.
We have been permitted to speak freely about this topic by the contest organizer. As a result, I decided to present my topic in a different way this week. I wonder if it will run concurrently with the competition. Anyway, let's see what this time my entry is.
My dear friends, you all know gold is a yellow-colored, very expensive metal that is widely used in the production of ornaments and coins. Gold has a special meaning in the world because it is closely associated with women. Using gold it makes a variety of jewelry, including necklaces, earrings, and rings. Women adore this jewelry because it reflects the wealth and nobility of the person wearing it.
I like gold, but as a child, I had only pair of earrings. My mother was a government teacher and my father was a farmer. Teachers and other government employees in our country were paid very little back then. As you are all aware, Asian farmers are not as wealthy as European farmers. My own family had four daughters and three sons. My parents couldn't afford anything else for us besides food and a good education.
But, on the day of my elder sister's puberty ceremony, my father gave her a beautiful gold necklace. I was a small child at the time, but I recall how much I admired it and watched her wear it. Later, my second sister also received a gold necklace on that day, though it was not as large as my elder sister's., it was also very beautiful. When they got those gold necklaces, I too imagined one day I will get such a beautiful gleaming gold chain. Unfortunately, on my day, I received nothing gold, because my family had too many children at the time. I had to be satisfied with only a wristwatch. I was very unhappy that day, even though I had received so many gifts from my relatives, except for a gold chain. Even after my parents died, they were unaware of my gold chain dreams. I also never pretended to them about my desire for a gold chain. I knew how hard they worked to provide us good education and others entertainment such as outings for trips etc.
Later, after receiving a good education and being unable to pursue my dream job as a doctor, I was able to find a white-collar job in this country thanks to my parents. Even at this point, I had only gold earrings and no other gold jewelry. However, my dream has not changed. I could see how my dream of owning a beautiful shiny gold chain grew day by day. My salary from my job was given to my mother, but I didn't forget to request back 5% of my pay and set it aside intending to save money, and purchase a gold necklace. After many months of saving, I had enough money for a gold chain and gave it to my mother with the request for a gold necklace. Even now, I remember how her eyes lit up when I gave her money and asked for a gold chain. After a few days, my mother and father went to a gold jewelry shop and bought me a beautiful chain. Oh, how happy I was that day, when I received my gold chain to wear around my neck. I can remember, how many time I spent in front of the mirror admiring my beauty while wearing the gold chain.
As I got a job at a young age, so I had plenty of time to collect gold jewelry one by one. My next goal was to purchase a pendant for the necklace. Saving a small portion of my salary, I asked my mother to bring me a pendant. Then I received a pendant too as I wish, and my next wish was for bangles. Next, I set aside money for bangles and gave it to my mother requesting bangles. My parents admired my gold-collecting behavior and asked my other siblings to follow me.
Even though I didn't own any gold jewelry other than an earring in my childhood, I eventually acquired a gold necklace, a pendant, and two bangles. My desire to collect gold jewelry did not end there. My next desire was to purchase a larger gold chain than the one I currently own. By saving more money from my salary, I was able to purchase several gold jewelers. Even now, when I have more money, I collect gold in the hopes that one day it will be worth something to my children.
It is an ancient custom of Sri Lankan Buddhist to place a gold panchayudaya around the neck of an infant before one year of the child's birth. When my two children were born, I wore golden panchayudayas around their necks. I also made two gold chains for them to use if they ever have a financial problem.
I wore a large gold necklace on her neck, to welcome my daughter-in-law, on her first day to my house.
It is my custom to give my granddaughters a gold item as a gift when they reached puberty.
Sri Lanka had been in an economic crisis for several years. With the value of the Sri Lankan currency fell down being thought the banking system was about to collapse, I bought several gold biscuits as an investment.
Considering gold as an investment, I still collect gold jewelry for the benefit of my children.
First, I used to collect money, because of my desire for a gold necklace. Even today I can collect more and more jewelry thanks to my saving habit which start at a young age. I am doing this not for greed but for future economic gain for my children.

Wahoo such amazing and interesting to read through your entry. Though I don't have gold, only seeing a gold necklace once and I admire it. Am happy you were able to save and get yourself the inner joy of having gold and also save for the future purpose.
Hoping to have one in the future. Best luck friend.

Hi friend.
Let me tell you that, like your parents, I greatly admire the behavior you had when you had your job, because even though your mind had some doubts, your heart knew how to wait for the moment that your dream came true and it was not the gold chain but to feel the great affection from your parents that let me tell you that it is worth more than gold and shines more than a diamond 💎
Thank you for inviting me to read your participation where I could see God's message that everything has its time.
Success in the contest.

You are a wonderful person, daughter and mother! Never change.
Gold can buy anything. This I learned from my aunt when she had to get back to South Africa as a young woman during World War II.
Keep on collecting!
Haha, I'm worried that the thieves will steal my house.
Thanks for your lovely feedback.
Good thing we don't have to put our addresses here on Steemit. (•ิ‿•ิ)

Your parents gave you the best gift you could have, food, good education and memories, also the wish to have a golden necklace as your sisters did.
I have never been such a lover for collecting gold jewelry, but I can see you achieved a great habit which is saving and nowadays you think of that golden little traesures as a future for your children and grandchildren.
