Soldiers are valuable assets to every country; they consist with brave men and women who serve as the nation's guardians. They are thoroughly trained to be strong and skillful, as well as to defend their fellow citizens in any manner. At any tough time, they go forward wearing uniforms and carrying weapons to protect themselves against enemies. Furthermore, they constantly choose the needs of the country before their own.

They work together as a team and trust each other when performing any challenge. Their key qualities are discipline and bravery. To become a great soldier, they need to have outstanding talents and operate responsibly. Despite their difficult circumstances, they always carry out their responsibilities. Numerous soldiers sacrifice their comfort and sometimes their lives for the sake of their nation, and their bravery and commitment make them heroes.

Most of the people join the army because they love their country and want to defend their nation. They know that they face multiple grievances when they join the army, but they do so as they love to serve their country. Citizens in the country every time honor and admire the determination and sacrifices of soldiers as they safeguard their country.

When soldiers defend their country citizens in the country can sleep well. Soldiers never step down at the battle, instead, they go forward fearlessly and do their best.

Duties of the soldiers

The main duty of a soldier is safeguarding their country from enemies and maintaining the peace and order of the country. It may be a defense of borders, avoid attack, and protect citizens from any danger. It is the responsibility of soldiers to provide a safe environment for everyone. Protecting internal security and maintaining the stability of the country is another responsibility of a soldier. Furthermore, during emergencies, protests, or natural disasters, they assist law enforcement forces in keeping the country calm.

Moreover, during natural disasters such as cyclones, earthquakes, and floods soldiers play a crucial part in providing help to humans. They assist in rescue operations, distribute supplies, and give medical assistance in affected areas.

Furthermore, soldiers assist in implementing laws, rules, and policies of the country to law enforcement authorities. They approach each situation cautiously, whether it is a terrorist attack or a natural disaster. In other words, when necessary, they assist local authorities in getting the situation under control.

Not only that but also in certain situations, soldiers take part in peacekeeping missions organized by international organizations such as the United Nations. They work to stabilize war zones, enable humanitarian relief, and promote peace and reconciliation.

Furthermore, soldiers frequently act as ambassadors for their country, representing its values and interests with honor and integrity, both locally and internationally.

The challenge faced by soldiers.

Soldiers face a variety of issues while on service. The most challenging aspect of this task is the emotional and physical effects of battle. Soldiers are regularly exposed to high-stress situations when they encounter or witness violence. Long-term duty, separation from loved ones, and an uncertain environment are all factors contributing to their stress. In addition to these concerns, soldiers face injury or death on the battlefield. Not only that, but they have to cope with the long-term effects of physical and physiological injuries. Soldiers frequently encounter obstacles such as inadequate resources, equipment shortages, and bureaucratic challenges with military systems. Despite these enormous obstacles, soldiers fulfill their responsibilities to protect their nation and its fundamental values.

We know as Sri Lankans how suffered our soldiers at war because we underwent a brutal war for nearly three decades. I recall how our soldiers suffered several injuries and deaths during the conflict between the LTTE and the Sri Lanka army. We lost a large number of heroic soldiers, therefore some of our children lost their fathers, wives lost their husbands, and some parents lost their children. Even today, there were numerous soldiers as disabled.

Anyhow they did their maximum to release our country from the LTTE. They carried out a 'humanitarian operation' rather than a war. We, as citizens, continue to honor our soldiers and our country's leaders also provide them with the maximum benefits for their families as well as the soldiers.

Now we can understand the significance of our soldiers. So, it is our responsibility to honor them for their bravery, sacrifices, and unrelenting commitment.
