Hello, my dear steemians, we have given another five simple words by @patjewell, through Steem For Ladies Community. This time, the words are crayons, basket, fence, nuts, and jellyfish. I chose the word 'FENCE' this time. There is no special reasons for selecting that word, but it touched my heart as soon as I saw these words. Let's get started with reading my entry on the fence.

For centuries, fencing has been an integral part of human civilization. The main purpose of constructing a fence is to keep something out or in. A fence, in other words, is something used to define the boundary of a house or building. This will provide security or set limits. It arose from the concepts of agriculture, family, and property, and the fence reminded us not to trespass in that location, and that part of the terrain belong to someone else.

Since ancient times, when a plot of land is chosen for a plantation or settlement, a fence is built to ensure security and ownership. It could be done by wooden sticks, stones, or thorn bushes.

Different cultures have different ideas about boundaries and privacy. As a result, they build a fence to secure their limit. It can be regarded as a symbolic expression of our belief in the need for some form of social control.

Throughout history, people have built fences out of natural materials such as wood, stone, and thorny plants. However, as time passed, it was built more beautifully, employing architectural designs. Some use concrete fences, while some other uses iron fences. Those fences are adding extra beauty to the building.

Fences are very useful in keeping nuisance animals out of the garden, such as stray dogs and cats. These fences can also help protect a home from thieves.

Fences are used not only in residential areas but also in agricultural fields. Fences are used in agriculture to enclose crops and protect them from animals. Livestock fences are essential for keeping animals in place and protecting them from predators. Fences are also used to protect plants from wind and flooding damage.

To increase human appeal, ornamental fences such as iron or decorative wooden panels are used in parks. With the advancement of technology and design, old fences have taken on a new look to meet modern needs. People nowadays make beautiful fences using iron, metal, and wood. A fence can transform any location into an appealing environment.

Some fences have been built to make it easier to climb difficult mountains. In Sri Lanka, Seegiriya, Adam's Peak or Sri Pada, Mihinthala, and many other mountains have built iron fences to make it easier for people to climb those mountains.

Fences have occasionally sparked heated debates between neighbors and even siblings. This type of argument can be avoided with well-planned fences.

Electric fences are another type of fence that has been found in Sri Lanka as a solution to the ongoing human-elephant conflict.

Fences are erected for the safety of verandahs and staircases in homes and buildings. Such fences add appeal and beauty to those creations.

Conclusion

These fences have been built since ancient times to protect privacy while also adding new faces and beauty to the environment. Fences adapt to our needs and preferences, providing security, privacy, and beauty to our surroundings.
