Hotel are like temporary residence established to provide accommodation , meals and other services to keep guests comfortable. Hotels are more than just places of relaxation but is an integral part of travel experience.

In todays contest I will be talking on the history of hotel, the various types and services hotels offer, customer experiences and a whole lot more.


So sit down, relax as I take you through the processes but before I do that let me invite some special guest @lovelystar, @diary-of-ima.


History of Hotels

The history of hotel can be traced as far back as the ancient times in the city of Egypt, where guest where offered rooms to lodge and other basic needs. Greece and Rome later introduced thermal baths in their own hotel facilities. Rome’s hotel was specifically for travelers on government business.


In the medieval era, the religious duty of monasteries and abbey was to provide shelters for those in needs. This made them the first in Europe to provide inns and taverns for pilgrims and crusaders.


The widespread of this facility went across to Asia and along trade routes in the 15 and 16th centuries. Gradually, meals were introduced in the hotels and more comfortable services were offered as well. This led to the grand establishment of what we see today as “hotels”. Today hotel has evolved from budget friendly to luxurious residential resorts.

There are so many types of hotels and they all meet different purposes. I will be listing few of them.

  • Luxury hotels: the hotels in this category are first class standards, that brings a state of great comfort and state of the art amenities.

  • Boutique hotels are smaller rooms with unique themes and designs that sets them apart. It creates a more personal and intimate experience for guests.

  • Corporate hotels: this are mostly for business men and women. Services provided here are conference halls, business centers, internet.

  • Resort hotels: This kind of hotel is mostly seen in places surrounded by nature like tall trees, beach, mountains, offering a conducive environment for relaxation

  • Budget hotel. This are affordable hotels for customers who don’t intend to spend much money and mostly stay for a short while before leaving.

There are so many types of hotels besides these ones that I’ve mentioned that have their own unique features.


Services and amenities of hotels

  • Accommodation: The major purpose of hotel is to provide rooms for customers to lodge and it ranges from budget friendly rooms to luxury rooms. So, it’s up to your cash, to speak for you.

  • Front desk services. The first people that guest sees as they enter the hotel are the front desk officers. Their jobs are to check the guest in to any vacant rooms, make reservations, inquiries etc

  • House keeper: responsible for making sure the rooms are sparkling clean, bedsheet changed, toiletries replace etc.

  • Gym facilities and swimming pool. Guest go the gym to burnout some calories in order to keep them physically fit for the day. The swimming pool is just to chill after the days work out session.

  • Bars, food and beverage services: hotels provide onsite restaurants and bars for guests. For those who might not be interested in staying those places, order for room services. Hotel even offers complimentary breakfast.

Other services might include:

  • Concierge Services
  • Business and Event Services
  • Internet
  • Entertainment
  • Safety and Security etc.
Customer Experience

In all the hotels I’ve worked, the customers experience is everything. When customers arrive at the hotel, the porter is at the door waiting for the customer to assist them with their luggage once they are signed in by the front desk officer.

From the warm reception to the beautiful room that feels like home away from home, all this services are put in place to make customers have a memorable experience. The staff are trained to exceed the customer’s expectations.

As a staff there, our aim there is to make every customer feel special, so that they can come again. No matter how much you are been provoked, we must be professional. After all, customers are always right. Is there money that pays your salary.

So, we make the customer pass through the journey of comfort from booking to check-out because just one happy and satisfied customer can bring a hundred more customers because of the good reviews they have given outside.

Conclusion

In conclusion, hotels are one of the best things that has happened to humanity because they have played a major role in facilitating travel, business, and leisure, evolving to meet the changing demands and expectations of guests.
