Hello friends in Steem for Ladies community. I wish you all a happy new month. I trust you and your loved ones are keeping well. Today, I am excited to have you read my blog as I will be posting for the first time here. I will be talking about the meaning of a Woman as part of my entry to the contest organized in this noble Community.

1.What does the word "Woman" mean to you?

The word "woman" means an adult female human. Before adulthood, a female human is referred to as a girl. For me, the word "woman" means a lot, the first is a female human that is mature enough to handle many tasks in life whether she is married or single. A female person who is extremely committed to specific things such as multitasking herself to ensure that everything goes well in her environment.

A mature female whether single or married is classified as a woman because she is expected to take care and handle many responsibilities in her family either marital home or her immediate family. I will conclude that a "woman" means a female person who is very strong and compassionate towards her family members such as siblings if single or husband and children if married.

2.Do you think that women are born only to be housewives?

It was way back in life that women were seen to be born only to be housewives, because they were considered to be vulnerable. I do not think that women are born only to be housewives. 60% of women in Nigeria are not only housewives but career women who do not depend on their husbands for their upkeeps but rather contribute to the family financial needs. Some women are completely shouldering the family responsibilities even when their husbands are alive. We have many women holding top political positions in my country and the world at large. A very good example is Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala who is the Director General of the World Trade Organisation. Many women are professors, academic doctors, medical doctors, accountants, nurses, university lecturers, Pastors, reverend sisters, business woman and pilots.

3. What is the role of a woman in your society?

Women play very important roles in my society that cannot be ignored.

As a Mother: Every woman in my society whether married or single is seen as a mother who has the in-built capacity of birthing a child or an idea. She does not only birth but vested with a heart to care and nurse whatever she births to full maturity. A woman is considered the first teacher of her children as a mother. She has the capability to instill discipline into her children. As a mother she has a large and accommodating heart to always tolerate and accommodate her family members and people around her.

As a wife: In my society, every woman is seen as a potential house wife who has the responsibility of taking care of household or domestic activities. A woman though considered by some people as vulnerable is a very hardworking and multitasking being. She handles the cooking, laundry, child birth and nursing while still doing business or working in an office.
As a Professional Career Woman:
Women in my society are competing with their men counterparts in the professional career path such as Engineering, Banking industry, owning and managing successful businesses. Women are lecturers, Pharmacists, Medical doctors, Accountants etc.

Like in my State in the just concluded elections, the Deputy Governor Elect is a woman. I have a female Professor friend in the department of Computer science at the university of Uyo who is also a mother and a house wife. Women are no longer limited in life in our today's world to be only housewives and mothers who are confided only to their husbands house. Even me as a woman I am not only limited to being a mother and a housewife, I am also working to take care of myself and family.

4. Who are the most important women in your life? You can tell us about your wife, your mother, your aunt, your niece, your girlfriend, or even your sister-in-law.

The most important women in my life are those who have really affected my life in a very special way. They are my mother and my Professor friend, Professor Uyinomen Ekong.

My Sweet Mama

My sweet mama as I fondly call her, is the one who brought me into this world and has endured so many things for me to become who I am today. She is always there for me, most especially in times of need. When I am sick she will be there to care for me. I cherish and value her so much because without her I do not know what could have happened to me by now. I pray God to continue to keep her in good health for me and should make her eat the fruit of her labor before she leaves this earth.

Professor Ekong is the one on native wear.

Another special woman in my life is Professor Uyinomen Ekong. She is not just a friend but a sister, a mother and my role model. She has inspired and encourage me so much in life that I can't do without her. She is always there for me financially and otherwise. The day I got married I slept at her home, she drove me to and from church. The day I put to birth she was there to support both in finance and in kind. I have no siblings and I'm the only child of my mother but God gave me a sister in her. I cherish her so much and I pray for her that God will continue to bless and keep her and her family safe for me.

In conclusion a woman is termed to be an emotional being. This special features makes them to be unique effective in whatever role or position they are given to handle. That is why they are so reliable to depend on at all times. I thank God that I am a woman and am proud to be a happy woman. Congratulations to every woman.
