Dear Diary,

Today is 2nd October. In our India , Today is our Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary . On this day schools, colleges, shops , offices ... all remain closed all over India . Hence , on this day people hang out with their family and friends and have fun.

In our Hindu religion, Pitru Paksha has started. It has started from 28th September. Pitru Paksha continues for 15 days. In this we worship the dead people in our house and in their name pandit / Panditain come . Today we feed the hungry people , animals etcetera . According to the Hindi calendar, today is Tritiya Tithi and on this date my grandmother died i.e. my father's mother.

So on this date we remember our grandmother and worship the Panditain ( assuming that we are worshiping our dead loved ones in thier form) at home and feed her food and donate clothes and money. So today my mother woke up at 2:00 am in the morning . Very firstly she drank a cup of tea for some energy because once bathed she won't be able to eat anything or serve anyone before the Panditain. And also it takes hours to prepare dishes because the list is super long . The hardest part is not preparing dishes rather keeping the complete kitchen clean and she has to do all by herself as per ritual .
She took bath and wore new clothes and started working . She cleaned the whole kitchen , got new utensils for Panditain , got whole bunch of new vegetables and milk packets ( everything has to be super clean , sacred and untouched ) .
After everything she started making dishes . She made many dishes and the best was kheer because that's my favorite . After a continuous work of hours everything was ready at around 7:30 am in the morning .

Panditain came at 8:30 in the morning. We fed her and gave her clothes and money, took blessings from her, then she left, after which we all had food, all the work was finished by 11:00 am in the morning.

Today was everyone's holiday , the best thing is i had my weekly exam yesterday and i was quite free now . So we planned to go to the famous temple of our city, Gorakhnath at 4:00pm in the afternoon and parked the car there . Then after buying flowers and prasad (sweets) , we went inside temple and had darshan (worshipped God) . There is also a big pond in the temple, where one gets a lot of peace by going and sitting quietly. Tablets and laptops cannot be taken in this temple.

The reason for this is that the biggest Mahant of this temple is the Chief Minister of our state henceforth due to the security , it is not allowed to carry a tablet or a laptop, hence they have to deposit outside. There is a counter outside where you can deposit. So I took several photos outside the temple and then deposited the tablet .

I thought of clicking some beautiful pictures of inside but i couldn't because my father doesn't like us being a photo freak. He says enjoy when you are here to enjoy . And we are like (yes sir !! 🧑‍✈️👮) .

It was very soothing therefore 4 hours passed in the temple and it felt like 2 hours . Then we ate batashas and kabab rolls . After that we came back home, we enjoyed the day a lot.

@moyeon, you have written about Pitru Paksha in very detailed and simple words. A ritual of our Hindu religion is to express our gratitude towards our ancestors. Have to remember them. It's a blessing. Very good.
