MY GRADUATION DAY : THE DIARY GAME JULY 3,2024

in Steem For Ladieslast month

The day I had been fervently longing for finally came. After years of unremitting hard work and dedication, I was about to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Laguna State Polytechnic University Los Baños. I was having been in Brgy. Mayondon, Los Baños, Laguna my whole life, this moment is not just an academic achievement but also a source of pride for me in the eyes of my family and friends, who have been my most incredible support system.

Birds were the first thing to begin chirping softly in the morning. The early sunlight that penetrated the house cast a golden, warm glow over everything, creating an atmosphere filled with excitement and nervous energy. My mother bustled in the kitchen, making a solid breakfast; my younger siblings were peeking into my room every now and then, their eyes bulging with anticipation.

I put on my graduation gown after a comforting breakfast. The smooth fabric felt both unfamiliar and fitting. The cap sat firmly on my head, with its tassel swinging lightly. Looking into the mirror, a wave of pride surged within me. This was the day I had been working towards for years.

We set off quite early to ensure we were not late for the college. Inside the car, there was much teasing, and my parents remembered how their son had grown up and how time was dashing. The view of the ground as we drove inside campus brought back memories of late-night study, debates with classmates, and endless hours in the library.

The graduation ceremony was held in the grand auditorium of the university, with the venue as vivacious as the collective enthusiasm from hundreds of graduates and their kin. Friends, professors, and mentors were spotted among the crowd, and in those moments, one happy family. We smiled and waved at each other, bonded in shared achievement.

The queue of faculty, in their academic regalia, made the ceremony very formal. The president of the university went on to give a powerful speech, showing the place of perseverance and lifetime learning. I could almost feel every word ring a bell in my experiences.

And then, the moment we all were looking forward to, the conferring of degrees. My heart began to race as one by one, my fellow graduates made their way to the stage. It was in a state of excitement and trepidation that I finally found myself being called to the stage at long last. The audience's applause as I received my diploma acted like the backdrop of a surreal scene—an epitome of my endeavor and hard work.

Returning to my seat, a deep sense of accomplishment overwhelmed me. I had achieved exactly what I had set my heart to do. But the day had another surprise—I was to receive the award for Best Research Paper. Indeed, the research I did on how social media affects an adolescent's psychology was a passion project. Still, the receipt of this award somehow validated my efforts and further underlined the importance of such research.

When, at last it was my name to collect the award, I walked up to the stage a second time but with even more pride. The applause sounded louder; the smiles on the faces of my professors were wider. Then, I accepted the prize, expressed my thanks, and thought about the journey that led me there.

By this time, the ceremony was over, and it was celebration time. We walked to a nearby restaurant—one of the most popular Korean places in town. It was packed, with the smells of grilled meat and spices in the air, making me even hungrier.

We sat around the table and recapped the ceremony, my award, and plans. My parents beamed with pride, and happiness shone in their eyes. Friends shared university anecdotes—the stories all so entertaining.

The food was excellent: kimchi, bulgogi, bibimbap, and japchae. Every morsel felt like a celebration of the work that I had put in to have gotten here. It was then, while in this company of my near ones, that the profound realization of how grateful I am for this all-encompassing support, their strength in each stride that I took during my studies, swept over me.

After eating, we strolled around the beautiful campus of the University of the Philippines Los Baños. The greenery and peacefulness here made it very photogenic. The sun was already going down into a golden glow, and I sincerely felt satisfied.

While the sun was setting, memories were being created and would for all time. On my way back home, I couldn't but think of the very road that brought me to this very moment in life. From the days of early study with so many challenges and triumphs to friendships and knowledge—every moment had defined who I had become.

Graduating with a bachelor's in psychology would signify more than academic accomplishment; it would testify to my diligence, dedication, and interest in the human mind. The Best Research Paper Award—a reminder of the hard work and impact of my research—was just icing on the cake.

As we pulled up to our driveway, an enormous sense of achievement filled my heart. This was only the beginning. With my degree and the support of my loved ones, I would now enter the next chapter ahead. The future was wide open and called out to me.

For the next couple of weeks, congratulatory messages poured in from friends, relatives, and professors. Each reminded me of the supportive community I had taken with on my academic journey. I thanked them individually, expressing my heartfelt gratitude for their support.

As I discovered career opportunities, the value of my education for challenges became more and more certain. The knowledge and skills acquired were paramount in benefit as they would set me up for successful career development in psychology.

I also started thinking about further education. My research interest had gotten me the award, which I wished to pursue. Looking into the graduate programs, I searched for opportunities to push my boundaries in understanding psychology and, hence, contribute something new to the field through cutting-edge research.

The transformation has been absolutely from a student to a graduate; much hard work, dedication, and relentlessly acquiring knowledge stand with you. On the brink of this new chapter in life, I look back on those experiences with gratitude.

My graduation day at Laguna State Polytechnic University Los Baños is beyond just a ceremony; it is a celebration of achievement, an award for effort, and a sign of persistent determination. This seals one road and opens another—an avenue to all the possible ways.

As I take the next steps in my life, I take with me lessons learned, friendships made, and memories created. Excited for what lies ahead, prepared to face the challenges that come and the opportunities that may arise. Graduation day—the memory of such will be dear to my heart: the journey and the bright future awaiting me.
