Photo of the Week - Children's bliss
Summer has begun. And in the south of the Netherlands, school summer vacations (a total of 6 weeks) have been going on for two weeks.
But what parent can also take six weeks off from work? That's just a few who have that luxury.
The parents, on average, take three weeks off to celebrate their vacation.
During the other three weeks of summer vacation, family and companions often deal with children or go to daycare.
Children are cared for at the school where I teach in my village during all vacations when their parents are still required to work.
They are under my supervision today from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Eleven hours is quite challenging for children. (And also for me). Just keep them occupied and entertained all day.
Fortunately, I am creative, and various activities occur throughout the day. From crafts to board games, building cabins, and romping around the playground.
It would be fantastic if the weather also collaborated. Now that is always a big mystery in the Netherlands. One week you are sweating in the burning sun with temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius; the other week, the sun rarely shows itself, and it is rain shower after rain shower.
This week was no exception. But that doesn't deter me and the kids from having fun outside.
I took this photo when we took advantage of a brief dry moment in the day.
Fortunately, the kids are used to this changeable Dutch weather, and when it is announced that we can go outside to play, all the toys quickly disappear into the closet, and everything is put away instantly. And the kids are eager to go outside.
I want to share this photo-captured - moment with you: a joyful moment, a moment of simplicity, a time of delight and thankfulness.
We often think children should be overloaded with the most expensive, newest, and luxurious toys, but look in a playground or just on the street.
Then you will see children enjoying themselves, laughing, playing together, and forming lifelong friendships with a swing, climbing frame, and a sandbox.
