Definition Of A Robber

Before we get to explain everything in details, let's first know the meaning of a robber. A "Robber" is someone who steals money, properties, vehicles, from shop by using force or threats. In other words, a robber is someone who is into robbery. A robber can rob a bank, shop, business center, market, house, streets, etc. Robbery is an unlawful act of taking away someone's personal property by violence,threat, or force. They take it through an illegal way.

What Are The Causes Of Robbery?

In my country Nigeria, there are a lot of reasons that thrives our youths to join robbery, kidnapping, assault, bribery, theft, etc. Some of causes are listed below;

• High rate of unemployment. If our Nigerian government imposes or creates youth empowerment for the youths, they won't indulge themselves into these corrupt practices. It is because of lack of employment that makes them think that robbery or stealing is a better option to survive.

• Political development.

• Undeveloped infrastructures: When there is lack of infrastructures like of provision good roads, boreholes, provision of social amenities, etc, it makes the youths to to desire money in any obtainable way.

• Poverty. When man is in a poor state is when they don't have a job, no source of income, and they don't hustle for money. They end up stealing from people forcefully or through threat for them to sustain a living.

• Desperation for money. When you're too desperate to get money, any kind of evil crimes comes to your mind, and it might end up being a negative one. When you are not consistent with what you have, it leads to desperation.

Have You Ever Been Robbed Before?

Anyone living in Nigeria can testify of how he or she must have experienced robbery, either through your properties, money, goods, etc. I have been robbed in different ways, but there is one I can't forget in a jiffy. In the year 2022, I got a new smart phone from my uncle who lives at Canada. He got me a Samsung galaxy250. When I got the phone I was very happy to have it because I have never use that kind of expensive and smart phone in my life before.

During the month of march in 2022, our church usually holds a one month night programme for the month of march. So, I started to attend the programme with my two sisters. So one day, after the church's night programme, we wanted to go home, and that was around 6:30 am in the morning. As were trekking home that morning, all of a sudden 4 guys surrounded us with knives and guns. We became afraid. They asked us to surrender everything we had. As we were bringing them out in fear, they snatched our bags away from us and ran away.

They took everything we had including my new phone I just got, earpods, torch, our house key, ATM cards, and our bible. In fact, they literally took everything in our bag and left us stranded. I was so astonished and flabbergasted. I didn't know how to feel at that moment. When we got home, we had to break our door because the took our house key too. Indeed, it was a terrible experience and all thanks to God that we overcomed it.😊

How Can Robbery Be Prevented

In order to prevent or avoid robbery in our society, here are few tips to take;

• Always be at alert and observant of your surroundings.
• Ensure visibility.
• Avoid shortcuts or bushy areas. Stay in a well- populated area where you can see people.
• Adhere to your instincts. If something or someone makes you uneasy, leave or try to avoid the person.
• Stay in a lighted area at night because the robber doesn't want to be seen.
• Never try to flash out large amounts of money or valuable properties in the public because it attracts the robbers, and they are tempted by money, electronics, jewelries, etc.
• Safety in numbers. Even if you are walking in the streets at night, try to walk with numbers of friends or a group to ensure your safety.
