SEC19 W2: "This is our style"

It's with so much joy and fulfillment I write this post. By the grace of God I have a growing family of my own and in few years time I would make reference to this post.

I am @jovita30 , I would be sharing with us, my extended family style together with my immediate family style

MEET MY FAMILY

Family I must say is everything. We learn our life's first lessons and values.
Every family have their unique qualities and style (The way they do their things).

A friend once told me it's an abomination for them to eat with their father's plate, I could not relate because we all eat from the same plate in my house.

That's what makes her family unique, while she was talking to me about that, I was busy looking at the sky because in my family you dare not stay out when it's dark.

Many years ago, I visited a friend in the city of Lagos. While we were talking, I noticed it was getting dark, not minding what the time was actually, I became very uncomfortable and troubled because in my family, you don't stay outside once it's dark, regardless of the time.

I had to take a cab from her house to my house. I ended up paying 10 times the normal price because I had to get home before dark.

This law became a part of me. I never attended any party organized at night no matter who invited me.

My family was build on so much morals and values.
In my family you get your first cell phone with your money, after your secondary school.

My Father makes sure you get a job after your Secondary school examination. While you are waiting for your result, you get a job to keep you busy.

The job is not just to keep you busy but also for you to learn the act of service.

If you can not serve, you are not worthy of the service of another.

Is a popular saying in my house.
Oh my house was so much fun. We wake up everyday for more than 10 years to the songs of the late Lucky Dube. Until now I know all his songs like I know my name.

Another thing working does for us was to teach us the value of money.
My Father wanted us to understand the stress of making money, so we can be financially disciplined.
You most accounts for every money no matter how small it is.

We became bankers even before we open our first bank account.
This got me into a very big trouble 🤣 in Nigeria we call it "wahala". Don't worry this would be story for another day.

Let's move to my immediate family.

I have a family of three and still counting consisting of my husband, myself and my daughter and others to come(smiles)
Though I copied and refined some values from my extended family.

I and my husband had agreed on our children learning a skill immediately after their secondary school examination, instead of getting a job like my father did.

This is because I want them to develop their personal skills that would eventually sustain them if need be and they would eventually learn the act of service because I strongly believe in it.

Instead of banning the use of cellphone in my house until a particularly age like my parents did, I would get a single phone for everyone in the house.

Another value I added to my new family is faith value. I don't want my kids to grow with just morals but with morals built on faith.

I would want my family to be bound by love. We would be known by the way we love ourselves and also those around us.

They would love, support and care for each other.
