A Jug is a container used for storing or holding liquids. It is large and so is always bigger than a cup. It has a handle for holding it and a hole from which the liquid content is drawn out of the jug. A jug could either be made of ceramic, glass or plastic. It is used for holding liquids for a period of time like when eating, storing liquids for a long time and also for decorative purposes.

Our Jug, like I love calling it, is an old glassware that was given to my mother by her mother. My grandmother had saved that jug in a cabinet in her room until her daughter, my mother, got married and started a new home. Grandma gifted her this beautiful jug amongst other gifts on her wedding day.

The jug is so beautiful. It is made of glass , has a handle and a hole from which we pour out liquids. The glass is beautified with different tiny stones that makes it have a clicking sound when hit mildly with another glass container or a metallic container. It is quite heavy and has great thickness unlike the ones mummy had to buy since she needed them to support grandma's gift. Those ones are light and the design aren't in any way close to grandma's. Grandma's gift is quite large also and can contain more amount of liquids than the other jugs bought by Mum. We named it mother jug because it outshines the others with these properties.

Our mother jug is a special jug to my mother and she uses it to hold liquids during dining time when we have celebrations at home and when visitors come home for visits. She so cherishes our mother jug that she finds it so difficult to make use of it when we have nothing to celebrate or no guest visits.
She uses it to hold fresh fruit juices made by her and water. The jug really does add beauty to the sight of it's contents.

Our mother jug leaves the dining table only when it is taken into the kitchen to get it washed and returns almost immediately after it was taken out of the table. Yes, my mum uses it for decorative purposes. It sits pretty on the table giving it an attractive look. Together with the little jug kept on the table to house the flower, the table cover and some serving clothes, the dinning table gets to look beautiful when arranged.

Each time we try manhandlingour mother jug, mummy would always remind us that the jug is older than us all (the children), we should give it some respect. It always sounds funny to us but we still understand that out of all the gifts grandma gave to her, she loves and cherishes our mother jug. Most of the gifts given to her by grandma had gone bad but this had stood the test of time and has served the family so much.

Personally, our mother jug gets so much of my admiration. I do hope it stays for a while so that mummy can gift it to me (a wild wish , if I must say... my other siblings wish for this too).
