Hello My Lovely Ladies!

It's been a pretty while, and I hope everyone is great! Today, I want to discuss a very important topic with us: Mathematics; I know a lot of women believe that math is not for us or, simply put, it's just for Scientists. Today, I want to tell you that math is for all of us, so if you're still schooling, try and find it interesting; if you're done, make it interesting to your kids and younger ones because we all need Math.

When listening to the daily weather report, shopping, or decorating your home, you're benefiting from and using mathematical principles. Okay in this article I will discuss how useful, accessible, and fascinating mathematics can be, so stay connected!

A Shopping Trip:

Just imagine that you are out shopping, and then you come across a big sale. The original price of the item was $45, but it has been marked down by 25%; that sounds like a bargain, right? But the question is what's the new price for this item? Ahh, here is where the Arithmetic comes to the rescue. So what you will do first is to subtract the markdown percentage, which is 25 from 100 (100% - 25% = 75%). Next, you multiply the original price which is 45 by 75% (45 x 0.75 = 33.75) so the new price is $33.75 or you can simply multiply the original price by the discount percentage, then subtract whatever you get from the original price to get the new price (45 x 25% = 11.25) $45 - 11.25 = $33.73(new price). Alright, it's good to know the final price now, so that you can determine if it's fair or not.

Oh, are you thinking, what if I did not carry a calculator with me? Okay, your phone or smartwatch can help, or perhaps you can work out the answer in your head. For instance, called it an item that originally cost $55 has been marked down by 15%. Here is the tip for figuring out percentages off-hand. Use 10% as a base. To find out 10% of a number, just divide the number by 10. This is simple to do off-hand. You know already 15 = 10+5, and 5 is half of 10; you can quickly calculate the final price by adding and subtracting.

Let us try that. 10% of 55 is 5.50, 5 percent of 55 will be half that amount, or 2.75, and 15% will be the total of those two figures, or 8.25 (5.50 + 2.75= 8.25). Finally, we subtract 8.25 from 55 to arrive at the discounted price of 46.75 (55 − 8.25 = 46.75).

You can actually use this approach to figure out the amount of sales tax on any item or the amount of tip you can add to your bill at an eatery. Of course, in these cases, you will not subtract; rather, you will be adding the result to the original price. But be cautious, though, not to bounce to off-base conclusions when figuring off-hand. For instance, a pair of slacks or a gown whose price has been marked down by 40% and then slashed again by another 40% has actually been reduced in price by only 64 %, not 80 %. Okay, the thing is that the second discount is taken at the reduced price, not the original price. It might still be a bargain, but it is better you know how fair the big deal is.

Well, there are other problems, though, that arithmetic cannot solve. But the good thing is that many other math tools are in place:

Decorating At Home:

Let us say one needs to replace the flooring in his/her apartment, and she's working within a tight budget. Before she goes to the store, she must first sit down to figure out all she will need. She might wonder how much flooring she would buy. In this situation knowing some basic geometry can help. Flooring is normally sold based on how many square units it will cover.

For example, a square foot is one foot long and one foot wide. Before a person can determine how much flooring she will need, she must first have to figure out how much floor area there is in each room and hallway in her apartment. The floor plans of most buildings are made up of a few squares and rectangles. So using the following formula could help her to accomplish that: a = l × w (area = length x width). This is the geometric equation for deciding the region of a square ⬛ or rectangle.

To illustrate how the above formula can be used, let's say that you want to put on new flooring in every room of your apartment except the bathroom and the kitchen. What you will do is measure the length and width of each room and come up with a floor plan; doing this will help you to get to know the size and location of the rooms. Here are some clues: You may calculate the area of each room one by one and then add the outcome together. Or you can save some time by calculating the total area of the apartment plan and then you deduct the area of the bathroom and the kitchen.

Geometry literally means "measurement of land." It comes from Greek words, and it involves studying the area, volume, distance, and properties of shapes and lines. There are practical formulas for all shapes imaginable, be it 2 or 3-dimensional shapes. Every day, Scientists, home décors, and engineers alike make use of these formulas to figure out exactly what they need. But there is more to math than geometry & arithmetic. Other branches of Math, like algebra, calculus, probability, etc, can help to solve different problems.

Mathematics has been used for many centuries now and has indeed become a universal language shared by everyone regardless of gender, culture, or religion. It is used in Science, Business, industry, and everyday life. It has the power to solve even the toughest riddles we face. Are you trying to balance your family budget or unravel the mysteries of the universe? Knowing how to use the language of numbers can help you succeed. Do you hate math in school? You may want to take a fresh new look now, yes It's just like any other language. You can learn best by making use of it. Try using mathematics daily. Try out math puzzles and games. One positive experience might be a game-changer! Yes, changing the way you used to feel about math.

Being good at mathematics will surely enhance our appreciation for the wisdom of the great Mathematician, the one who designed the entire universe, yes these intriguing concepts from the beginning and he's none other than our Creator, Jehovah God!

Oh, I'm glad you understand, thanks for the compliment!

Thank you for your valuable contribution, friend. You're absolutely right about the importance of mathematics in our daily activities. I appreciate your visit and good wishes.

(45 x 25% = 11.25)

Let me not lie.. I have failed something similar to this in one of my aptitude test in maths.

I stopped at “11.25” and it was part of the options. I ignored this part entirely.

$45 - 11.25 = $33.73(new price)

Thank God you touched it… na so I for don go fail again incase I come across it.

Pls, expect more questions from me, maths teacher!! 😊😊

Thanks

It's a pity for me because reading your post is equivalent to reading a foreign language I know nothing about 😂😂 but I respect all the mathematicians in the blog, well-done ma'am for taking such time to do the explanation.
Good luck
