Introduction

Hi my beautiful ladies, I greet you specially. It's been weeks away since I participated in Choices, What will it be? Contest. I'm fully back and bouncing.

Choices like our amiable lady, @patjewel said while introducing this week's contest "Is the freedom to decide." Of course, it is a freewill thing, that's why I've made my decision to share with you my choice, freezer.

You would wonder why I chose a freezer, but don't worry as I'll have a good time to explain it to you. The freezer in my home is one of my two most important gadgets. I call it a "life-saving box." As we know, the freezer is used for cooling/freezing food, water and drinks. If you go to big supermarkets, malls and shops, grocery shops etc, this particular electronic is used for the preservation of their fresh goods, such as meat, fish, and other fresh foods.

Particularly for this contest, I want to talk about the freezer in my home. The one in my home is well situated in the dining room, a place it is lying comfortably since my kitchen is not spacious. Using the freezer the way I do is a practice I learnt from my aunt. She stocks up her freezer with food in order not to run out of food to give to anyone who visits her home. That was part of her lifestyle which I admired and also promised to do the same.

For me, it is the freezer I rely on for the preservation of foods cooked in my home. As a working mother, I don't have all the time to always cook, so I cook just once a week. That's possible because I cook only on weekends as I go to work as early as 7am and return home by 4pm Mondays to Fridays. After cooking on Saturdays or sometimes Friday evening, I pack the food into the freezer so it can last for a week and even more.

Whenever I put the food there, the freezer in its true nature will freeze and preserve the food for me so that whenever I'm back from work I won't worry about food. I'll majestically walk to the freezer, open it, then get food to eat with my family.

The freezer has helped me with the following:

• The freezer has gone a long way to reducing the stress of going to the market, most especially, because I have no help in my home at the moment to take care of my kids.

• It has done a greater job of keeping the food fresh compared to warming stew or soup for my kids from day to day every time we want to eat.

• I run to the freezer to get cold water whenever I'm back home to quench my thirst during the heat (sunny period). I tell you, the cold water saves me from dehydration because the kind of heat we have here in Nigeria seems to be more than is experienced anywhere else. One of the reasons I call my freezer life saving box.

• Again, like my aunt, I may not have food to give to my guests, but I can always reach into my freezer and get a glass of cold water or drink for them.

That reminds me of a time I had to make a short trip. My husband doesn't like to enter the kitchen or cook. Though, I'm sure he knows how to cook well. Before I travelled, I cooked food and preserve it in the freezer for him to just scoop, warm and eat without stress.

Also, I remember the COVID-19 lockdown in the year 2020. As we all know, movement was restricted all over the world, markets and stores were shut down. By that time, it was the freezer that was my only saviour. In the short times markets open, I'll get all the raw foodstuffs I need, cook some and preserve some in the freezer.

Conclusion

Having this gadget at home is one of the happiest things that has happened to me. I certainly know I'm not the only one who treasures the freezer in my home, there are people who treasure it just like I do.
