That was the way of your upbringing, however, now, your point of view differs, because there are many disadvantages between being a boy or a girl.

Your siblings enjoyed being out of the house and could play with their friends, while you had to stay at home, doing housework. This seems very contrary to equal parenting.

Children have rights to play, to go to school and to express what they feel and want. This is what now emphasizes your position of equality in child rearing.
