WHO IS A NARRATOR

---

A narrator is briefly someone who relates the point in a story, a NARRATOR gives a brief description of what the write-up is all about, when narrating a story, the narrator needs to be very careful so that he or she doesn't confuse the people listening to it or reading it, he should try not to confuse the audience. We have narrators in the movie industries, novels, poems, music, broadcast stations, etc. It is the narrator who has the authority to direct the audience on how the story is, for example, starting the narration with an adult viewpoint shows that the story has a line which adults will understand, starting it with a child's viewpoint shows the story has a line in which a child will understand, the story is linked to the mentality of a child, so at this point if the narrator start it with the child viewpoint and later linked it with the adult viewpoint, probably his or her audience will be confused. So it is proper to know the right point to use that will fit and benefit the audience.

The word narrator was coined from a Latin word "narrare" It means to be acquainted with or relate or tell, so a NARRATOR is a person who is acquainted with the story, he will now relate or tell about the happening in a novel, movie or broadcast.

There is another word which is always used in place of a Narrator, the word is known as "point of view".

Point of view is a person's perspective on a matter, it has to do with how a person sees the situation at hand.

TYPES OF NARRATOR

When someone is writing a story, the person will consider how to make the story captivating to the reader, the person will now choose which angle to begin writing it, and this angle will now affect how the audience will understand the story, this angle is the point of view in which the narrator has to crosscheck so that he can know how to make it relate with the reader. The reader need to get the sense of the story from the narrator's viewpoint. Each type of narrator has an impact on the way the reader understands the story.

We have:

1. First-person narrator
2. Second-person narrator
3. Third-person Narrator
4. Unreliable narrator.

FIRST-PERSON NARRATOR: the first-person narrator is someone who is part of the story, he or she has a role in the play, this type of narrator can easily be known, he will not consider how other people or character in the story are looking at the situation, other characters may have their way of looking at the matter or situation in the story, but their point of view will not be considered because the first person narrator is only giving the narration limited to his or her viewpoint.

SECOND PERSON NARRATOR: the second person narrator is someone with the second hand information, he uses he or she in narrating the story which means he was not present but got the information from the first person narrator.

THIRD PERSON NARRATOR: The third person Narrator tells the story he or she got from another source or read about. He will address the characters of the story by names.

UNRELIABLE NARRATOR: this is the narrator who doesn't know the angle in which other people sees the situation, but he chooses to relate to the audience as such not letting out all the information or purposefully withholding some because of his ignorance about others way of looking at the matter.

A Narrator plays a very good and important part in a story, a Narrator is in a good place to inform the audience properly, because the narrator will chose what pattern to address the audience, he will also determine the point to direct the audience , the interest of the reader is controlled by the narrator.
