This is arguably among the most overlooked pieces of apparatus that distinctively shape our safety despite its construction and overall design simplicity. Weather we are in car or in self destructive activities the only part that really matters is our head and the helmets are intended to keep them safe. In this write-up, I will focus my discussion in the helmets and their function of protecting lives.

A helmet is a basic safety wear item meant for protection of the head especially during activities such as motorcycles, cycling or construction. Helmets function like a protector that takes the force of a fall or collision and minimizes the likelihood of serious head injuries and, in some cases, death occurring.

Helmets have been recommended for wearing in different industries for a long time. In the case of the motorcyclists, the helmets can hugely reduce the number of fatal incidences due to protection of the head from major harms. The research done on accidents prove that helmets decrease the risk of traumatic brain injuries by a wide margin, which makes them crucial for any rider.

They are of many kinds depending on their intended use. There are motorcycle helmets, bicycle helmets, sports helmets and construction helmets each designed to meet the demands of the associated risks. Such helmets undergo vigorous testing for impact and softness with an objective to determine their protective nature n the same time making them as lightweight as possible for the user.

Besides safety, it is also mandatory to wear a helmet to in many jurisdictions. All countries have ensured that motorcyclists and cyclists wear helmets to protect the individual and to reduce the cost of treating head injuries when avoidable. Availability of or fines or penalties for not wearing a helmet extends on the strict implementation of this regulation.

As people choose a helmet, they are advised to choose the one that would best fit them. A helmet that is too large on the head or that fitted too tightly can put the user at huge risks. This headwear has to be made from a strong material and a necessary safety characteristic should be provided by the corresponding bodies. Also, a helmet should be replaced if it has incurred an accident regardless of the fact that it may not be evidently damaged, for the structures might also be severely affected.

All in all, helmet is not only a piece of component identity but also a safeguard, which, therefore, should be worn by anyone who will be exposed to risk of head part. Wearing a helmet is one of the easiest ways of guarding oneself against severe head injuries as one is either on the road or at work. Always remember safety comes first – where’s your helmet?
