Choices! What will it be? #60

in Steem For Ladies29 days ago (edited)

Salutations my esteemed steemians, I'm delighted to participate in the No. 60 of choices for this week. My choice is Robbery. Though i was still young, I can vividly remember when we were robbed 10 years ago. The worse part of it is that when the launch their attack, my family is always out of funds and this pushes them to beat my parents using a chopping board.

"If you move i kill your wife or your only son (that's me😀)", an armed robber said this to my father 10 years ago when he was trying to escape through the ceiling. That's just a glimpse of robbery attack in my life, below my post, I'll briefly explain my experience about robbery. But first, let's start with.....

What is Robbery?

Robbery is one of the serious crime one can commit. It involves using threat, violence and force to take people's properties which can have an effect on the victim both physically and emotionally. Robbery also means breaking into someone's house or property to take away valuables that doesn't belong to you. Robbery can cause financial loss, and this act is punishable by our country's law (Nigeria).

To show that this act is very serious, In the city I'm leaving, when a criminal is caught and there's evidence that shows that he or she is a criminal, the street boys will do nothing else but to burn the person at the spot, it's called by the youths jungle justice. Robbery is an act each and everyone should avoid indulging into.

Types of Robbery

If I've to list and explain the types of robbery we have, it may take a full day. Let me talk about just 3 types of robbery;....

Armed Robbery

This is a Robbery where guns, knife, axe, matched and other armed equipment will be needed to commit the crime. It's the most dangerous of them all, because if they request for money and you delay to bring it out, they may probably use those harmful equipment on your body which may lead to deep wound, probably death.

Street Robbery

Bad boys who are born into the street do indulge in such robbery, by taking valuables from people who live around the area. This robbers don't fear or even care what will happen because they do theirs publicly. We have some of them in our street currently, they snatches wallet from men, purses from women and cut off people's plantain in the street.

ATM Robbery

We all know that ATM is a machine that dispense the amount of cash we request for. ATM robbers do spy around those machines along the road to rob anyone who's going to withdraw some cash. This is also a type of robbery people steal money from the machine, how? For example, they may request for 30,000 naira withdrawal, when it's time to put their pin, they'll erase those digits to 3,000 naira, and they'll successfully robbed you of 27,000 naira if not looked properly.

How can robbery be stopped?
Creating Job opportunities

One of the main reasonz why our youth indulge themselves in robbery is due to lack of job in the society. So creating job opportunities for them even with their low level of education can treat unemployment in the society as well as driving away all sort of robbery. How can someone spend 7 years in school, then there's no good paying job for him or her, a boy can rob to survive then the girl can turn to a prostitute.

Secure your property

We should be grateful for technology with it wisdom of developing computerised equipment which we can use to reduce the risk of robbery in the society. CCTV camera is the best thing so far, with this equipment placed in and outside our environment, it'll be difficult for any criminal to trespass, because they'll know that they're all visible. They're humans like us and they value their life, so they'll run for their dear life because the camera will scare them away.

Hiring vigilantes

When we talk about vigilantes, they're not just mere street security. In my city, we know vigilantes as one of the strongest security personnel, so hiring these set of security to secure the environment both day and night will chase those robbers away.

Okay, now let me continue with my experience about robbery as at 10 years ago. My father obeyed the Armed robbers and came down from the ceiling because they threatened him with our life. He was beaten with chopping board, i so much thank God that my mother returned the knife inside the kitchen, who knows what would have happened next.

They placed a gun on my head threatening to kill me if my father don't give them what they've asked for. My father had no choice but to hand over his friend's money to them, which was about 500,000 naira. They were satisfied and they left, my family went into debt in just one night. Hmmmm, robbery indeed is one of the serious crime. I hate robbery!!!

I'll be delighted, if @fortwis09 and @bessie2023 could join me in this contest.

Thank you for participating…..

You have created a wonderful post on a very valuable topic. This piece of writing is really interesting. Indeed, robbery is a serious crime that can have devastating effects on victims, both physically and emotionally. Taking away one's property through threats, violence and coercion not only causes financial loss, but also violates the victim's sense of safety and security. Thank you so much for sharing such a quality post.

Oh, the introduction to your post left a great suspense, I'm happy i got to hear the rest of the story. The robbery experience is one thing no one would love to experience again.
I personally feel like the 'jungle justice'as it is popularly called is not a really good way to handle robbery attacks, but what can they do when the police isn't doing their job.

Thank goodness for surveillance cameras, at least robberies can be caught there. Your post was interesting to read. See ya!

Jungle justice isn't a good way to handle that, yes. But it seems the Nigerian Police do release this people even before their time all because of money. I really appreciate your point there, thank you ☕
