Dear dairy,

	My alarmed face in the market

It was a beautiful day and I must say I was enthusiastic about the day, this was because I was looking forward to making my happy food of chicken pepper soup and ripe plantain. Do you have that food that makes you tick whenever you think about it? This one makes me tick.

I was on the phone with one of my friends whom I haven’t heard from in a long while and we were chatting and gisting when he popped the beautiful question. He knows I love to eat chicken pepper soup and plantain and he was like, when last did you eat your happy food and I said its been a while. So he said I will send you some money to prepare it today and eat.

	My breakfast

I was so overjoyed, so he sent the money the day before and I woke up this day happy that I was going to eat my happy food. My happiness didn’t stop me from doing my regular morning routines which involved praying, studying and doing my cleaning.

When I finished, I prepared a quick breakfast of fried omelette and bread with a cup of warm chocolate and milk and then I headed to the market happily to buy the ingredients needed for my happy food.

Needless to say, my joy was interrupted with the prices of commodities in the market. I don’t really understand what’s going on but the Inflation is so bad that the goods add up everyday. I went happily to buy chicken for my chicken pepper soup only to be told that the price of chicken had jumped from #3600 to #5000. I shouted in the market and the woman selling the chicken was laughing at me.

But this is not funny for crying out loud. I knew things add up everyday but I wasn’t expecting that much jump in the price, Only for her to tell me that it was actually #5500 the previous week that the price has even come down.

	The things I bought

I was alarmed actually. That was how I went to buy a sachet of milk that I bought for #3500 only few weeks back and I saw the price was now #5000. I was shocked. I tried buying plantain only to be given three pieces for #500.

I went to the market with about #5000 naira hoping I would buy all I needed and still have extra change but I was highly disappointed. The prices of food items have gone way beyond normal and it’s heart breaking.

I had to buy the things I wanted and started coming home. Everything has doubled in price and some even tripled or quadrupled. I had to buy half of the chicken instead of one kilo.

Making my happy food

I came back a bit sad but I quickly entered the kitchen and started preparing my chicken and plantain. When there is life, there is hope. I prepared the ingredients and boom, my chicken happy food was ready.

I dished some for myself and ate and thanked God for a good day and free food. I zoomed into steemit later in the day to comment on some posts and do some steeming before retiring for the night.

I gues my chicken soup made up for the economic strain tugging at my country. We do hope things get better.
