Is cooking a choice or a hobby for you? Explain

Cooking to me is a choice. I actually love cooking my food. I tend to have an particular picture or taste of what I want my food to be like, taste like or look like hence it leaves me no choice most times than to choose to cook my food because of the desired end.

I also stay alone hence I do not have the liberty not to choose to cook unless I want to eat out. If I had other alternatives readily at my disposal, maybe it will be a hobby in as much as I love to cook but right now it’s a choice, I just have to cook what to eat.

What do you understand by "broiling"? Explain the difference between "baking" and "broiling?"

Broiling is a type of cooking that involves cooking the food directly with the heat on the top of the oven to cook food quickly.

Broiling comes in handy to add a variety of spice to food for example;

  • it’s used to make food crispsy, and to add flavour and colour to food.
  • Broiling is used to create a char effect on vegetables and meats.
  • If you want your food to brown quickly, you should consider using the broiling method.

Broiling is different from baking. Broiling uses heat directly from the oven top to cook the food while baking uses heat indirectly from the bottom or top and maybe from the back of the oven.

Broiling makes for quick cooking and browning of food while baking takes a longer time.

Broiling requires more attention given to the food to avoid scorching while baking requires less attention.

Broiling is used to cook thin foods like cuts of fish, tilapia, salmon, trout etc while baking is used for semi solid foods that needs solidifying like cakes, brownies, empanadas etc.

Salt: Salt enhances the flavour of the food.

The four basic food handling behaviors are:

  • Clean
  • Cook
  • Separate
  • Chill

Clean: Wash hands and cooking surfaces often with warm or cold water and soap. Ensure to wash your hands for about twenty seconds after handling raw and uncooked food. Ensure to use a clean towel or paper towels to dry your hands intermittently while cooking and after cooking.

Cook: Ensure to cook your food to the right temperatures. Food should reach a high temperature so as to kill harmful bacteria in the food.

Separate: Ensure to separate already cooked food and is ready to be eaten from raw foods. Raw food like poultry, eggs, raw meat etc should be kept separately.

Chill: Ensure to refrigerate food as soon as possible. Do not leave food at room temperatures for long. keep food hot if you aren’t serving the food immediately.
