The Diary Game #49: Share your day with us! Celebrating mpimpa festival with my friends and family/ watching masquerade (Our culture)

Today was really a beautiful and happy day for me, I had fun. Today really went well for me, it was very productive, although I was stressed up shaa but actually day went nice. Am so happy this night and also sharing my diary game with you guys.

Today was mimpa in my village, Umudioka. Every July, we normally do a festival called mimpa, and it is our culture that during the celebrations, masquerades will be passing everywhere.

I woke up in the morning to observe my morning devotion. After that, I went and started doing my morning duties. I first swept our surroundings, then went inside and swept our rooms and parlour.

I also went inside the kitchen and warmed our left-over food. Rain was falling outside, so I couldn't use firewood.

When I was done cooking, I went and brushed my teeth and also took a bath. Today is the first day of celebration, so I don't want to miss it.

We do the mpimpa festival in ten days. The first day is usually fun because all kinds of masquerades will come out. I wouldn't want to miss this day, and I didn't miss it at all.

After bathing, I took my breakfast and was ready for the event.

My junior sister also prepared; my grandfather married seven wives, and some of them are ezenwanyi (female native doctors/dibia). Because of that masquerade were coming in and out of our compound. We were just laughing and running.

It was really fun; masquerades were busy passing everywhere.

Masquerade can't be beautiful, but I can say that some are neat and beautiful, while others are too scary.

Some of the masquerades were passing with their musical instruments and were also singing.

The songs are sweet; they were singing the song in my language; if not, I will include it here 🤣.

When we were watching the masquerade, something happened. One masquerade was chasing a girl wearing a trouser. He was chasing the girl because girls are not allowed to wear trousers on that day, so if the masquerade sees any girl wearing a trouser, they will chase them and flog them.

When the masquerade was running after the girl, the masquerade fell down, and everybody was just laughing. It just looks as if the girl planned it, but it was just part of having fun.

A lot of things happened, even when we were in our market square.

Some random guys fought because of the money they got from the masquerade celebrations. Our culture is that once masquerades come to your house to do the mimpa festival, you must offer them something. So most people prefer offering them money. At the end of the day, the masquerade will share the money with his guy.

Maybe they didn't share the money equally, and they started fighting because boys and men can be so mean.

I really had fun today, and I will move tomorrow to watch more masquerade.

I have never experienced it like this. Last year I was in boarding school, and I only came back to hear they had already celebrated the mpimpa festival.

But this year, I will see the end.

During the evening, I went back to my house. When I got home, my junior brother, who was in boarding school, came back, and I took some selfies with him.

After some time, I took my evening shower and dressed up.

After I went inside our kitchen, I cooked food and served my family dinner.

That was how my day went.🤗
