Hello dear friends! Well come to my post. How are you all? I hope you will be doing well by the grace of Almighty Allah. I'm also fine and enjoying my day. Today I'm here to participate in this amazing contest which is organized by @patjewell in this Steem Ladies community. The topic of this contest is about "Choices! What will it be? #72" and I have selected "Mustard". So let's start without any more delay of time.

Mustard

The mustard is a plant which belongs to the Brassicacae, and have a very strong history because, in ancient times, it was a very important ingredient used in kitchen and for many other purposes. Even after so many years it still retains its importance because it is used as a condiment in kitchen, fodder for cattle and it's oil is used in many purposes. It can be mixed with water, vinegar and with other liquids to make a paste which can be used as spices.

In my country Pakistan, the mustard plants are grown at a wider scale every year especially in winter season. So we can say that, it also has a great agricultural value because, it's seeds can be preserved and saved for future purposes. In different regions of the world, the mustard can be found in three different types including the yellow mustard, white mustard and black mustard.

But, still I have seen only yellow mustard because it is grown in the area, where I'm living. Each of that type of mustard, have their own distinct characteristics, values and uses. On the basis of their types, the mustard plants can be used in multiple aspects of our lives, as a condiment to fodder for animals, it is also has a great medicinal value. So let's discuss about the uses of mustard.

Uses of Mustard

Yes indeed, the mustard plants have a vital role in our lives as its uses goes beyond the condiments. Almost, its uses are found in every aspect of our lives. Let's discuss more briefly about them.

Mustard Fields


1. Culinary Uses:

  • The mustard is widely known as a condiment because it can be mixed with water, vinegar and with other liquids to prepare a paste which can be used in various dishes to make them more tasty.

  • The mustard oil is used to prepare pickles because it has an ability to stay with rotting for even a longer interval of time. So in Pakistan, the people mix mustard oil with carrots, mangoes and with chillies to prepare pickles.

  • The mustard oil can be used for cooking instead of other cooking oils. This is because, the mustard oil has a strong flavor due to which, many asian countries including Pakistan, India and Bangladesh use it for cooking.

  • The grind form of mustard seeds can be used as spices to prepare a variety of delicious foods. When they are used in foods, their taste increases.

2. Medicinal Uses:

  • The mustard oil, has antiinflammatory and anti bacterial properties due to which it is used to relieve muscle pain through massage as it improve the circulation of blood.

  • Also when the mustard oil is put on the wounds, it prevents it from infections and boosts the healing process. I have also used it several times on my wounds.

  • The mustard can also be used as a hair oil because it has ab ability to prevent hair Loss, dandruff and dry hair. So it makes the hair shinning, silky, strong and dandruff free.

3. Agricultural Use:

  • The mustard plants can be used as a fodder for cattle because in my country Pakistan, many people cultivate it at a large scale to use it as fodder for their animals.

  • In agriculture, the mustard plants are also used as cover crops because they help the soil, to maintain its fertility and prevent it from soil erosion.

4. Industrial use:

  • A various kind of applications of mustard can be found in industries as it is used in the production of soaps, creams and other cosmetics products.

  • The is because, the mustard oil has antibacterial properties so it is used to make antibacterial soaps which are especially designed for skin.

  • The mustard gas was used in world war 1 as a weapon due to its irritating property. Due to that reason, it was known as a chemical weapon.

Besides all these benefits, the mustard oil and the plants can create problems for us because they contain allergies and cause allergic reactions especially anaphylaxis in people. These things may lead towards, running, nose watery eyes, sore throat and rashes on the skin. Also the mustard can cause food allergies which may lead towards serious health conditions.

If the condition of anaphylaxis increase, it can cause gastrointestinal problems, itching, swelling on different parts of body and hives etc. So if you are getting these problems from mustard, stay away from them and avoid its intake. And also if these conditions become severe, then go for medical treatment to prevent from further damage.

Conclusion

In conclusion, we can say that the mustard, bring numerous benefits to our lives, from culinary Uses, medicinal uses to agricultural uses etc. Also one of the greatest advantage of mustard is in food industries because they are used in preparing different spices mixed with other ingredients. According to me, the mustard will continue to be loved in all over the globe due to its unique health benefits and in the kitchens of every house.

I have learned so much about mustard from your post. It was also the first time that I saw images of a field of mustard plants.
I wonder how many mustard seeds are needed to fill that bottle with mustard oil.
