It’s back to my Not-So-Local LCS, Local coin store, and found a special locally available bullion coin that was made for Vancouver's Canadian Numismatic Association Coin Convention of 1992. An Epic rare Dragon round! And since there was a few to choose from, I took the opportunity and time to pick among the best ones.

I believe this issue was also in conjunction with other events and celebrations taking place at Vancouver’s Chinatown at it’s Chinese community in conjunction with celebrants in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Shanghai.

This Vancouver round is part of a Pacific Rim set of four; Vancouver, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Shanghai issued by The Money Company out of California in association with the local Coin clubs.

The One Tael Dragon of Vancouver, Canada

1992 Vancouver One Tael Silver Round

Obverse: VANCOUVER, Chinese Dragon, ONE TAEL
0.999 Fine Silver, 37.8g, 1.214 Troy Oz.
39mm
Reeded edge

I don’t have to tell you how synonymous the Chinese Dragon is ingrained with the Chinese culture over the last millennia, from the Imperial projection of power to the symbol of spiritual belief of every individual. The Dragon thus makes the idea feature to culturally represent an expression of value on this very special round.

From worthpoint.com :

This beautiful commemorative Dragon Silver Tael was issued in 1992 as part of a series of coins honoring areas with a large concentration of overseas Chinese residents. With the large Chinese population of Vancouver, many being immigrants from Hong Kong, it was natural that Vancouver would be one of the sites selected and this One Tael Silver Coin was issued in conjunction with the CNA Coin Convention that was held in Vancouver in 1992. The magnificent design features a monstrous dragon rising from the boiling waters of the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Vancouver. It is quite a difficult piece to obtain today. It is struck in Beautiful Proof Quality.

In reading the Motto, “PLACE YOUR TRUST IN SILVER AND GOLD” we Stackers can sure resonate with this round’s message. And the Chinese sure understand the value of Gold and silver.

Yes... We definitely put our trust in Silver and Gold!!!
I love the detail on the Chinese Dragon @kerrisilavenhill and 1.214 Oz ...larger than the average Silver round!🤗

I wonder how many Silver products are out there with the same Message?
Silver like this are the means to get the message out especially with a beautiful design.
I've met at least three Stackers at my local Show, two are Chinese, and they know true value.
The more people realize how terribly flawed our monetary system is, the louder this message will be!
Thank you for your comment @silvertop

Very, very true!!! This is why Women in India wear their Gold, they carry their wealth with them. Now I just wish I could convince my oldest son.
If I try to talk about Silver and Gold being real money I get that glazed look.....🙃

@kerrislravenhill my great Pirate sister, what an epic find! I have never seen these but perhaps I will run into one in my travels because they are gorgeous!! Merry Christmas to you and yours dear sis and thanks for sharing!!

Merry Christmas 🌲 to you too @dwingsworld,
and may you treasure the good and better things in your Heart more than the Treasure that could be washed away by the Sea!

Simply stunning! The detail of the dragon is beautiful! A great find for sure! Thanks for sharing this.😊

No doubt Dragon themed coins are very popular and the question is ... Which one the Best Dragon?
A very subjective criteria of course especially if you factor out mintage and solely on the design with so many to choose from.
Thanks for your comment @elizabethbit

Awesome, awesome pieces, sis! Excellent pickups!!! Your choice of designs for you silver coin collection and stack is impeccable!!! Wow, what can one say, but magnificent !!!
Thanks for sharing coins that we seldom see anywhere! Have a fabulous evening, take care 🥰🌺🤙, and a million hugs and kisses 🤗❤️😘

Thank you Sis, I'm tempted to go back and pick up one or two if any left.
Odd that no one knows what the actual mintage was but I can't believe there are many of these in existence.
My guess is less than 5,000. Only 3 on Ebay now 2 at $85 USD , one NGC at $350.
Talked to a local club member and he said back then they sold for $50 CAD coming in a black box with a COA.
I love these mysterious finds Sis, Much love 💖 🌺 🙃

That's a pretty impressive round!

I think one of my best "Finds of the Year".
Thanks for your comment @amberyooper

That was the first time that I saw the value of the round (1 tael) on both sides of it.
Beautiful dragon!

As you already know, Tael being the old standard weight for Asian trade from the not too distant past. It should appeal to the older generations and was likely used as a teaching gift to their younger generations of Chinese who have never experienced economic collapse like in the old country (1920 - 1930s) when many Chinese bank paper money failed yet again.
Maybe that's why it's on both sides, and bears repeating.

My friend and Stacker, PD is Chinese with a collection of notes from failed Chinese banks but his family had enough gold and silver to survive that collapse, oh the stories he could tell.
Thanks for commenting @ronaldoavelino

Great find, sometimes we forget the artistry involved, its like fine art on little shiny round mirrors \o/

The combination of a purposeful relevant Message and the artistic beauty of a silver coin can potentially lead to the birth of a Stacker.
Thanks for commenting @coindevil

Pacific Rim set?!!! That is a snazzy dragon and hyper local silver is always fun!

Thanks @dfinney , and I believe is a totally Underrated silver round that is quite hard to find, won't see very many of these.
