This could be interesting with the extra slot for a card to played in... however, it could be a checkbox option to select if you want to enter into that kind of match... or suppose Player 1 pays x DEC to gain that slot, Player 2 could be notified of this and be given the option to make the purchase for x/2 DEC which would 'refund' x/2 DEC to Player 1. Then the match starts and plays as per usual.
The total cost for an extra slot should be the same if one or both are making the purchases, unless the cost is relatively low.
Sounds like your model would favor the player that is the fastest to accept the use of the extra slot. I envision a check box as well ...... tick here to pay XXX DEC for use of an extra slot. All players will have the option to do so or ignore and try to win without the extra slot.
