Getting Testnet ADA and Staking

in SteemLeo6 years ago

Cardano Floundation begun last year the Incentivized Testnet phase of Cardano’s Shelley era has begun, marking the very first steps towards the network’s decentralization.
This testnet is designed to test incentivization in a real-world context and allow you – the ada holder – to earn real rewards by either delegating your stake or running a stake pool.

The balance snapshot was taken at 12:00 UTC on November 29, 2019. If you had ada in a mainnet Daedalus or Yoroi wallet at the time, you can now restore your testnet ada balance and access stake delegation features or start running a stake pool to earn real ada rewards.

But ADA holders in Upbit exchange could not transfer their digital asset to ADA wallet with system instability of UPBIT exchange. So, UPBIT recently announced that they will send Testnet ADA to the holders of ADA at the balance snapshot, 12:00 UTC on Novemeber 29, 2019. This is agreed between both parties, Upbit and Cardano, regarding UPBIT official announcement.

How to receive Incentivized Testnet ADA

If you already have testnet ADA as of mainwallet ADA snapshot on Nov. 19th 2019, you don’t need to concern to get testnet ada anymore.

  • Wallet Introduction
    I. Daedalus(Windows, MacOS, Linux)
Daedalus wallet is used on the Cardano blockchain. It is a software application for use on computers, there is no mobile version. Daedalus is the original wallet released for the launch of the Cardano blockchain in 2017.
Daedalus is currently not available for mobile platforms.

II. Yoroi (Chrome extension, Firefox extension, mobile)
This is from partner company Emurgo.
It seems to be developed by Japanese engineer and the development team seems to be located in Tokyo, Japan.
I think that The stability and reliability seems to be lower than Daedalus. Because I have seem many complains and request to improve abot that wallet.
If you want to use stable and ling-term transaction and investment, it may be better to use and get used to Daedalus.
But it may be more convenient and easy to approach for the holders just for staking or simple use to use Yoroi.

  • About Yoroi iOS
Yoroi app in mobile is easy to approach and use. But it is recommend to use Chrome extension version and Daedalus to use wallet and Testnet without unstable or limited features.
It is necessary to know Shelley Testnet wallet address to have tADA from from ADA exchange, UPBIT or others. But it is difficult to see the address via mobile Yoroi wallet.
There are no feature that you can see testnet address.
I guess that wallet developer and Cardano might think the feature would not be necessary during testnet period. At the time of snapshot of wallet, they might not think of the possibility to transfer testnet ADA from exchange to testnet wallet, just considered to stake ADA and run nodes that were based on restored ADA regarding snapshot at the end of last year.

You can make both mainnet wallet and testnet wallet.
Mainnet wallet give the option to see wallet address, but testnet wallet do not have the feature to see the address.

But It is possible to see the address when you restore wallet with after deleting the wallet with recovery phrase.

you can see the address in the middle of the recovering progress. but you cannot copy or paste the address.

  • About Yoroi Chrome Extension
It is more intuitive than Yoroi mobile and easily see the address to receive your testnet ADA.
Many other users or crypto -semi professionals posted relevant articles so I just post photo and add small comments.

Just copy the address and apply that in the filed that required

  • Apply for Testnet ADA to UPBIT
It is more intuitive than Yoroi mobile and easily see the address to receive your testnet ADA.

  • The background of giving Testnet ADA
UPBIT say that this additional tADA payment comes from the fairness reason. I think that that is one of reason. But also Cardano may need to have more testers to verify its testnet. It may be very hard to get meaningful results with small number of samples of transaction or blockchain nodes.

What you can do with Testnet ADA

You can stake that, in other words you deposit into stake pool that is a sort of “Fund”. It is easiest way to get rewards, but the rewards rate is not same depending on where you stake your own testnet ADA.
or you can run your own stake pool to make blocks. It may be a sort of specialized field, so I would not explain more.

  1. Running staking pools and get reward
  2. Staking Testnet ADA and get reward

Delegation and Index to check

There are many stake pools that you could stake your ADA.
You can choose stake pool for your investment validating some factors.

  1. Rank: Integrated rank of pool operation
  2. Controlled Stake: Total amount of stake that a stake pool controls.
  3. Performance: Given as a percentage. is measured by how many blocks the stake pool has produced (and that are recorded on the main chain) compared to how many it was nominated to produce.
  4. Produced blocks: The number of blocks that have been produced by a stake pool in the current epoch. Stake pools are rewarded in ada for each block that they produce.
