INTRODUCTION

There's no gainsaying that adoption can be quite exhausting in Nigeria. Children are gifts from God and completes the home but the inability to birth a child lies pains and sadness with pressure heaped on the woman to bring child into the world. So it is painful to hear, see, or read about children abandoned. It is difficult to understand why a woman after going through the pains of childbearing would have the mind to throw the child away, the worst part in horrible places.

Beinggerian student, I have seen and heard countless stories of this wicked act. Once a child was seen hanging on the barbed wire of a fence, refusing to die. After serious investigation, it was later discovered that a 200L student had given birth to the child and threw him over the fence of an empty land but luckily for the baby, he survived.

There are lots of horrible stories that have been told, when asked by some of the mothers who later come forward, would Infer that it was either fear, the poverty rate in the country, and the lack of financial capacity to train the child that would make them take the decisions they make.

What is Adoption?

In layman terms, adoption is a act of taking on the provision of the basic needs of a child from the biological parents to new parents.

It is also a process where a family assumes the position of the parent, providing shelter, security and love for the child.

What are the challenges adopted children face?

➡️ Abandon Issues: Children of age from about 3-15 when adopted have abandon issues. They usually feel like it is a dream to have been adopted, and might lose their new family. They are sometimes inclined to act a certain way, so that the new parents would not have an option of sending them out of the house.

➡️Low Self-Esteem: 70% of adopted children have self-esteem issues. A situation where they feel they are like they are not good enough, unloved and maybe cursed which is why their biological parents would abandon them.

➡️Double Identity: Should they act their norm self or act the child try assume their adopted would want them to act, like the perfect child. As a child grows up, they would realise that him and his parents do not look alike, and this may arise questions, questions like what their biological parents were like. Curious one's might go as far as conducting a research to discover who they really are.

How is adoption viewed in Igboland?

Adoption in Igboland undergoes serious precautions. Igbos pride in culture and adoption is not part of that culture. In was o my recently that adoption was accepted by some tribe, while some still see it as an abomination to bring someone who is not your blood, and one you have no idea of what the family history is like into your home.

How do I personally view adoption?

If adopting a child is going to be the it way to end series of pains and loneliness, families should adopt more. There are lots of children out there with the knowledge of what a living home feels like. Some of them in search of that love and care would join bad group. A family might just be the answer to the child's needs.

Challenges of adoption and how to handle it.

Parents who adopt children are often mocked in cruel environment, especially the women who will be mocked of not being able to bring a child of her own into the world.

The child is also mocked by peers who knows that the child is adopted and would refer to them as bastards or outsider. The adoption process itself is not an easy one, if not careful, one might fall into the hands of traffickers who sell kidnapped children.

Will I recommend adoption?

Yes,I would totally recommend adoption because of two reasons, one, if the family have done all they could and could not birth a child.
Second, if they want to help the child, training the child. There are lots of kids who without proper care have gone the wrong path. If this family can cater to the child and see to the good upbringing, then why not?

It is a necessary to note that the benefits of child adoption cannot be overemphasized. Adoption is good when passed through legal means anf should be enjoyed. It has put smiles of lots of people, a stable home for the child and the feel of love.

In layman terms, adoption is a act of taking on the provision of the basic needs of a child from the biological parents to new parents.

They do face a lot of problems as you have just mentioned on your post.

Parents who adopt face serious backlash from the society.

Yes dear,you are right.

Parents who adopt children are often mocked in cruel environment

This is the reason why some persons will not adopt a child, they are always thinking of what people will say and how they will be in eyes of people

The fear of what people will say has kept many families childless and angry. Thank you for engaging my content.

I am in support of your idea. If couples are not able to have a child of thier own after several trial is good to adopt a child legally and train as thier own.

It is the best decision, trying for a baby involves both IVF, surrogacy, and adoption. None is easy to pull through.

Thank you so much @steemalive. I am grateful.

What kind of wickedness on high rate was such , have to threw newly born child over fence . Very sad and bad . Though the child might get it hard to die but lucky enough to live . Truth is that fact that barbed wire would badly fractured that newly birthed one . Very bad.

Yes, the baby sistained serious injuries but I believe God kept him alive for a reason.

she doesn't want to be a mother
So she took her little baby's life"

This world needs God.

The issue of double identity arises from society's pressure. Some believe that family is strictly for people related by blood and any other union is never complete.

This is so beautifully presented.
