Innocent Chukwuma split from his brother in 1981 and began selling Honda motorbike parts. He started trading under the name Innoson Nigeria Limited with his savings and money from his brother. He began importing motorcycles as time went on.

According to the Vanguard Newspaper, he discovered that everyone in Nigeria, including Indians, was interested in the motorcycle business. Furthermore, state governments began outlawing commercial motorcycles due to Okada riders' involvement in terrible crimes and high fatalities. As a result, he decided to pursue a career in motor manufacture.
