Introduction

Water is a colorless, odorless and tasteless liquid. Water is a free gift of nature and it is usually transparent with H₂O as its chemical symbol. It is a vital part of life and it is needed in our day to day lives.

Why Does The Body Need Water

Water is a part of every living organism, we can’t practically survive without water.
The following are few reasons why the body needs water.

  1. Maintenance Of Blood Pressure
    Inadequate consumption of water could make the blood in the system to become very thick and as such it may result to high blood pressure.
    So water is needed so that blood pressure can be maintained.

  2. Regulation of Body Temperature
    Water usually leave the body through the skin during the process of sweating. As the water evaporates, the body becomes cool and as such when there is little amount of water in the body, the human body becomes prone to heat.
    So therefore, having a lot of water in the body reduces heat especially during exercise.

  3. Removal of wastes from the body
    Water helps to flush out waste products from the body through the process of sweating, urination and feces.

  4. Weight loss
    Consuming water regularly instead of sweet juices and soda could help loose and maintain a healthy weight.

  5. Digestion
    Water aids digestion by breaking down foods and making way for the nutrients to be absorbed by the body. After the intake of water, it is usually absorbed by both the small and large intestines thereby moving into the blood and allowing the absorption of nutrients to take place.

  6. Protection of the joints
    Water helps to keep the body hydrated and regulate the body temperature.
    Water acts as lubricant for the joints which helps to protect them.

Acidic Water

Acidic water has to do with any water with potential hydrogen (pH) lower than (7). pH shows how basic or acidic an alkaline is.
Acidic water is usually caused by natural phenomenon such as pollution.

Why Should We Avoid Acidic Water

• Acidic water prevents the absorption of calcium which might likely lead to loss of bones.

• Metal pipes in our homes can also be destroyed due to the high acidity of the water causing the pipes to leak.

• Regular consumption of acidic water may likely lead to tooth decay.

• Acidic Water also contains heavy metals which could result to diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.

Alkaline Water

Alkaline water is the direct opposite of acidic water. An alkaline water has a pH that is higher than (7).

Why Should We Drink Enough Alkaline Water

• Alkaline Water helps in the neutralization of acids in the bloodstream.

• It helps in the Prevention of some chronic diseases such as heart attack and cancer.

• It enhances hydration, regular intake of alkaline water has a positive effect on hydration status after exercising.

• Those who drink enough alkaline water are likely to age less.

• Alkaline Water also contains sodium which helps in the regulation of blood pressure.

Sources Of Drinking Water In The Community Where I Live

The sources of drinking water in my community includes;
Borehole Water
Rain water
Stream

Borehole water
In the community where I live, the borehole water is actually the most accessible one because almost every family has a borehole and as such most people often fetch water from the borehole.

Rain Water
Fortunately for the people in my community, it is rainy season and I’ve noticed that each time it rains, the individuals usually bring out their rubbers to collect water from the rain. Some people often use this rain water to cook and wash their clothes while some drink it after boiling it.

Stream Water
Though I haven’t visited the stream in the community where I live currently but I’ve seen a lot of people fetch water from the streams especially those who has farms close to the stream.

My Source Of Water

Personally, I drink from the borehole water, but this is after I must have boiled and refrigerated it. But most times I often buy sacket Water from the water factory close to my area.
Aside drinking, I use water from the borehole for my cooking and washing. Therefore, the borehole water is my own source of water.

About What Quantity Of Water Should We drink Daily?

There are several opinions on the quantity of water to be taken daily but health practitioners recommend that one should take at least 8 glasses which is about 2liters per day, this is because the body looses constant throughout the day. So to prevent dehydration, enough water should be taken daily.

Conclusion

Water is very important to the human body, and it is necessary for us to take enough water in order to maintain a healthy body.
Instead of taking several juices and sodas to quench taste, I recommend that enough water should be taken.

Nice article here, the benefits of water(alkaline water) cannot be over emphasized. Water is really necessary in our well being as humans.

I will definitely avoid acidic water.
