Introduction

I am glad to meet all my great and wonderful people today on this uncommon transformation platform. Sometimes you feel like posting contents but you can't, because of insufficient battery power in your phone. It's always very annoying seeing electricity cables connected to your house but you don't see light. Don't worry anymore, here I have explained some reasons why you don't have a constant power supply in Nigeria.

Source of electricity

Electricity in Nigeria is generated through thermal and hydropower. The natural resources, fossil fuels especially the gas account 86% of the power capacity and hydropower 14%.

Considering the gas source of power

  • Gas source of power:
Discharging gas from the plant, I mean the point of production to the electricity generating companies, there are things to be done. From oil drilling the gas is taken out and it has some dense fluids which has to be thoroughly cleaned and filtered to remove some particles, oil and water as the case may be.

  • Hydropower source:
Between March and late April, 2022. Electricity generation in Nigeria has been really down and this was primarily as a result of low rainfall supplying Nigeria major hydropower plant. Towards the dry season from November to April, underground water table are normally very low.

Electricity distribution challenges in Nigeria

There are a whole lot of problems facing our power distribution company. Listed below are the common problems associated with not having light in your home's.

  • We don't have enough gas pipeline in the country to transport gas from the point of production to different consumers region. More pipelines need to be built to enable discharge quantity of gas produced.
  • The distribution capacity by means of wires and transformers to convey power generated.
Some of the cable we see crossing the city and highways are too old and weak to transmit power.

How we can have light

A lot of work need to be done if we must have light.

  • Replacement has to be made on transmission lines and the transformers.
  • Since it required much money to fix the wrongs. The electricity generating companies should be able to define a strategy that every consumers pay bills for what they have used.
  • The company should build more transmission lines, those high tension cables that come from the generating plant to substations where the power now start going to different distribution network.
  • People should stop seeing light as something that the government should provide, and start developing the habit of paying bills for what they consumed.
  • Illegal connection should be avoided at all cost

Conclusion

Every electricity consumers will be willing to pay their bills if they have the light they paid for. And that shouldn't be done by assumption rather a meter should be providing by the electricity generating companies to every homes and factory for adequate functioning of bills and payments.

Special thanks.

Hi @sirpchannel,

Thank you for posting in Steemalive community.I salute you.You have given enough insight on the sources of power in Nigeria and some of the challenges that will hinder power distribution. It is apalling that we haven't seen light for days here.At the end of the day,we would be expected to ay high bills on electricity bill even we aren't what we pay for.

So we need to hel the government by paying our bills on time.
