Water is a very vital part of our lives today, it is also very abundant all around the earths surface. We must have heard many definitions about what water truly is, so of us don't even tend to understand how it's formed. This post takes us through on few of the things we need to know about water.

Definition

Water is an organic chemical compound that is tasteless, transparent, odourless and nearly colorless that is composed of 2 atoms of Hydrogen and 1 atom of Oxygen. That is why it is chemically referred to as H2O.
Water is one of the most abundant and important compound to Humans. It can come in various forms either, liquid, solid or gaseous as determined by its temperature.
Water has the ability to dissolve many other substances and that is why it is referred to as the universal solvent.

Water mostly occurs as a liquid and that is why it is very useful for transportation, recreation and even as a habitat for some living organisms known as Aquatic Organisms

Properties Of Water

Although its formula H2O seems simple, water exhibits very complex chemical and physical properties.

Physical Properties

  • Water has a melting point, 0 °C (32 °F)
  • Water is lighter in Solid state than in Liquid state
  • Except Mercury, Water conducts heat more than any other liquid
  • In natural State, pure water is neither acidic or basic
  • Water is the only compound on earth that can exist in all 3 major states of matter
  • Water has a boiling point, 100 °C (212 °F)which is much higher than would be expected by comparison with compounds like hydrogen sulfide and ammonia.
  • Chemical Properties

  • Water is an Inorganic compound
  • Water behaves as an acid and a base (Electron Donor & Acceptor)
  • Water is very useful In redox reactions
  • Water is poorly soluble in aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons
  • Water is required to carry out Hydrolysis
  • Classes and Types of Water

Water comes in two major classes
  • Soft Water
  • Hard Water

  • Further, Water is said to come in many types:

  • Mineral Water Water
  • Tap Water
  • Glacier Water
  • Rain Water
  • Sparkling Water
  • Distilled Water
  • Flavored Water
  • Purified Water
  • Well Water
  • Alkaline Water

Water indeed is a topic worth writing about, it's ability to be essential is truly outstanding thanks for blogging

    Thanks for reading too

After oxygen, water seem to be the most important thing to human existence.

The body is made up of blood which has water in it.

This post is far beneficial to this platform than one can imagine.

    Thanks @tmighty for your commendation

@sammylove. Thanks a lot for that educative and informative post. Where will we be without water.

Water is one of the most abundant and important compound to Humans.

We all need it. The most precious liquid. Best wishes.

The benefits of water are far more beyond what we can think of.
    Thanks a lot @emjeak
