Preparing Our Local Delicacy: Fiofio and Achicha Ede
Good day everyone. I welcome you once more to my blog. I hope you are having a wonderful day because I am enjoying my 'stay at home' that sickness has imposed on this precious I....sit back and I will teach you how to prepare one of our delicious native delicacy, Fiofio and Achicha ede.
Someone will ask, which food is this one again? Well, if you are from Anambra State then you know it but for those outside my state, but you are Igbo, you Know it...it may just be the name that may confuse you.
Fiofio is a very proteinous food that is in the beans family: tiny and very strong, round in shape...
Achicha ede is just ordinary cocoa yam (ede Anambra). That particular cocoa yam we use in preparing soups like oha and onugbu....well cooked and dried under the sun (you need the process, consult me later). I processed it myself so, no sand or any junk in it....story for another day!
💖 Fiofio
💖 Achicha ede
💖 Pepper
💖 Onion
💖 Crayfish (little)
💖 Red oil
💖 Salt
💖 Seasoning cube
PREPARATION
Pick your Fiofio very well to remove dirt and sand. Wash and soak for 12hours...it will help it to get soft quick unless you are using firewood or electric burner. Fiofio is very strong... not as soft as beans o.
Take a little quantity of the Achicha ede and pound (not to a smooth form)...
Just to break them up to a chewable pieces.
Then soak like the Fiofio.
- Put the Fiofio in a pot and set on fire.
- wash the Achicha ede and put into small white nylons. Put them on top of the Fiofio as it's cooking.
Don't put water in it o.
The water in the Fiofio is what will cook it.
- When it's cooked,
Blend pepper and crayfish, cut the onion.
- Set another pot on fire, add red oil. Put onion, the blended things and fry them. Add seasoning cube, salt, Fiofio and Achicha ede then stir everything together. Taste the food to make sure everything is in order. If yes, then your Fiofio is ready to be served...
We all have our peculiar indigenous foods so, enjoy this one; all the way from Anambra State- Light of the Nation. May also be related to Enugu people. Cheers!

Is it an Igbo food or are you not Igbo woman, I have never heard anything called fiofio, what is it like
It's in the pictures...local beans...time white or brown in colour. Very strong. More nutritious than beans o
Is it akidi, ashims, ahima.??
It's not akidi...I don't know the others you mentioned but look at the pictures on the post. Maybe what you call it is different from what we call it
