What Is Bribery And Corruption?
Bribery is the act of offering and receiving anything valuable with the aim of inducing a person to act or reward a person for doing what you want. While corruption is any dishonest or fraudulent practice or behavior in which people uses their position of power to benefit themselves at the expense of others.
Why Is It Common?
There are so many reasons why corruption and bribery are common in our society today and some of those reasons are÷
- Greed of money÷ The greed of money has lead some many people into bribery and corruption in our society today and such act has destroyed so many life's because they can't just do without it because it has become a part of their being.
- Desires÷ Some people has allowed their dearies to get the better of them there by leading them into bribery and corruption because they are not contentmented with what they have.
- Low salaries of civil service÷ The low payment rate of the civil servants is one of the reason why most of them involve themselves in bribery and corruption because even with the low rate of payment the government are not paying them regularly.
- Lack of job opportunities÷ Lack of job is the greatest reason why people engage in bribery and corruption especially the graduates and youths who see corruption as one of the way to earn money that why most of them are into Yahoo today.
- Lack of transparency÷ In any community or country that there is no transparency bribery corruption must be there because those involved are not giving account of any thing they do .
- Cultural difference÷ There are some community you find yourself in that you will have to bribe those in power before they can attend to you because you are not from their side and you don't speak the same language.
- Lack of strict and fast punishments÷ In any society where there is no punishment for those involved in bribery and corruption such society will not be able to get over it instead it will get worst because they see it as a normal thing.
- Economic structure÷ The economic state of any society will determine the rate of corruption and bribery but the economic situation of our country today is increasing the rate of corruption and bribery because the system is very bad.
- Bad governance÷ The incompetent of a government will result to bribery and corruption because they are the head of the table of bribery and corruption so even if any of them is cought in the act actions will not be taken against them because those in the upper hand will protect them.
- Independence of the judiciary÷ In a society where the three aims of government are not performing their duties as they are supposed to the rate of bribery and corruption will continue to increase.
Explain how bribery and corruption happens in your city,state or country
The rate of corruption in Nigeria today is very high and it happens in every areas like, school, hospital,banks, even to the chruch today there is corruption because some people today see chruch as a place of making money that why we have so many fake pastors today everywhere. The corruption in schools is one aspect the government should put in there attention because teachers that are extracting money from the students are teaching them a very bad thing.
Most students see it as a normal thing that why most of them don't read because most of them will say there is no point of me reading since at the end I will have to pay my teacher for me to pass. By so doing it has affected the performance of the students and it's reducing the educational level of the country.
Why is it wrong for public office holders to get involved in bribery and corruption?.
It is very bad for the public office holders to engage in bribery and corruption because they are the ones the common people are looking up to as leaders and helpers because they are the ones close to the government so if they should involved in such act it will be difficult for the common people to survive because they will not be able to meet up to their demands in exchange of what they want.
Two weeks ago I went to warri to apply for one of the government empowerment program and the crowd was much so we were all on lines and before we know it the lines scattered so we all went to the entrance of the hall where we will be given the forms but we all couldn't enter because we have not written out names and before I know it some people started giving some of the officials money and they were taken to another office to collect the form and I was like what is this. I couldn't get the form on that day because after some time they said the form for that day is finished that it's only people that have written their names that will be attended to so I went straight home
What should be done to any public office holders that gets involved in bribery and corruption?
There is no way any public office holder is allowed to be involved in bribery and corruption so if anyone is cought such act he or she should be fined with some amount of money and also dismiss such person from office so that if anyone is thinking of such act they will think of the outcome and it will put fear in them and by so doing it will reduce the rate of bribery and corruption.
Conclusion
Bribery and corruption is a very bad thing and it affects both the life of an individual and the country so the government should put a stop to it and we as individuals should be contentmented with whatever we have so it won't lead us into bribery and corruption. We should also uphold our self esteem because it's also those with low self esteem that involves in such act.
The rate of bribery and corruption in our society is getting out of hand. And it could be seen in almost all sectors of life.
All these is as a result of greed. No matter how wealthy a greedy person is, he/she would always want to be bribed before rendering services.

Bribery and corruption has not in any way helped the society. It is like a canker worm that has eaten dip into virtually all sectors of our country. Greed, poverty, avarice are some of the factors that fuel corruption.
