Pollution has pose a big threat to living things(man and animals), it has lead to the dead of many, food scarcity, bomb explosions etc and these are not in any way beneficial to human. Pollution seems out of control because man does not want to put a stop to it, because of greediness the world has been in all aspects consisting the land we live, air we breath and of course the water we drink.

What is pollution?

Pollution could be said to be state or condition in which a particular geographical area is desecrated, contaminated, defiled, profaned or degraded by harmful substances resulting from some external forces.

How is the air, land and water in your city polluted?

Uyo here in Akwa Ibom state is a very busy and lively city and of course, it is also a victim of pollution although the government is working very hard to keep it clean. The air we breath is not pure, our lands are polluted and the water is nothing to write home about. My city has been polluted in the following ways;

AIR
1. The numerous industries that has been established releases toxic gases which goes into the air
2. Emissions of smoke from vehicle pipes has also polluted my city
3. Dust particles has also led to the pollution of uyo town

LAND
1. The land has been constantly drilled by various engineers for their own reason
2. Improper waste disposal as nylons, plastics, papers are scattered about in every nook and cranny
3. Use of toxic Agricultural chemicals by farmers

WATER
1. Our rivers, streams, lakes has been polluted with contaminates from factories
2. Application of effective but dangerous chemicals to help catch fishes which has killed lots of fishes improperly
3. Radioactive activities has also pose a threat to our water bodies

Why is pollution dangerous to health?

Pollution has led to many deaths and health challenges such as;

• Low birth weight
• Cancer of the lungs
• Asthma
• Infertility
• Low sperm count
• Retinopathy
• Parkinson's diseases

And lots more

What can you do to protect yourself from different forms of pollution?

Life is very precious, therefore I can protect myself by doing the following;

🌴Making use of masks when going out to prevent me from inhaling dusts etc

🌴I should endeavor to recycle imperishable waste or burn them

🌴I should discourage farmers from using irrelevant agricultural chemicals

🌴I should avoid pouring waste down the drain as this will lead to blockage and flooding

🌴Endeavouring to eat organic foods and non fertilizer grown foods

🌴Avoid living close to factories, industries etc

Suggest ways that government can help to fight pollution

Government can fight, reduce or eradicate pollution if the following could be done;

🌾Making laws and regulations against pollution

🌾Defaulters of such laws should be made to pay fine or better still their factories shut down

🌾The government should make sure that the monthly sanitation regulations are adhered to

🌾Adequate waste dump sites should be made available at strategic locations for easy access

🌾Seminars should be held to enlighten the masses on the dangers of pollution

🌾Certain pollutants should be banned by governmental agencies

We have seen that pollution is very disastrous and majority are man-made but due to greediness and love for money, people's life are considered as secondary as there is no sign of putting an end to it. Change start with us, as individuals who care about others, we should avoid actions that may be of discomfort to others.
