INTRODUCTION

Remembering a past event could trigger joy or sadness . Although my story is not so much of a pleasant one , neither is it terribly bad. its just one of those things we encounter in life and i am so excited to share it.

HOW I GOT MY JOB

I finished my OND from IMT some few year back and applied for my HND in the same school. after buying the form, i filled it and submit to my school. Few weeks later my name was among those that were shortlisted. with that excitement , i told my mum about it, instead of being excited as well , she told me that she didn't have money to sponsor my education, i was so broken because i couldn't imagine myself forfeiting an admission just like that.

Days went into weeks, weeks into months , i then knew that my mother was really serious about her decision. then i decided to go and learn a skill. which was baking of cake and making of snacks. To learn the skill, i went to my mum's friend by name Omenwa . Her shop was at 10 Ngwa road. so i was traveling from Ogbor-hill to that place daily.

fews later i was perfected in bakery and making of snacks. i started baking cake , making meat pie and chinchin for sale. After my daily sales, i noticed that my profit was always very small, as small as 400 naira . i only saw my captial . it kept on happening like that until one day a dear friend of mine asked me if i would like to work in a bank . According to her, the bank employs OND holders. honestly i obliged immediately , after all my business was not sustaining me.
i applied for the job officially , few months later , i got the job.

MY EXPERIENCE AT WORK AT THE EARLY STAGE.

when i got a call from the office that i have been granted the job and that i should resume with immediate effect in their office in port Harcourt. i didnt waste one second to go to port Harcourt. i went to there main office , they redirected to the branch i was to work, located at Woji road . when i got there i realized it was a newly built branch. they just completed the building but it was not officially opened.
i went back to the main office and told them , they asked me to stay with them in the main branch until my branch opens officially.

Banking environment was totally a different place. everyone is always in a cooperate wear, one must resume to work before 7:30am, the ACs are perpetually ON. At first, it was not easy working under such an environment where the AC's where never off, because i was constantly getting cold. most afternoons i would go outside and stay under the sun, because of the coldness of the office. i stayed in the main branch for three weeks , then moved to my branch in woji.

WORKING IN MY BRANCH

when i moved to my branch, i was taken to the Bulk Room in the operations department to work as a Note Checker. The role of a Note Checker is to count the bulk money deposited by the customer, then wrap it, signs and stamps on the note wrapper upon confirming that the money is complete. The Note checker stays in the Bulk room with the Bulk Teller

Working as a Note checker was not too difficult for me since i wasn't working with computer so it didn't require balancing of account. All i needed to do was to check if there was any counterfeit with the mercury light, then confirm customer's money, sign and stamp on the deposit slip and note-wrapper . To me it was notan uphill task. because i when i count the cash , immediately i take it to the bulk teller to post , he or she will reconfirm with the analysis i made on the slip, then do the posting. At the end of the day, the bulk teller raises a voucher and submit all the money he or she didnt pay out to the vault office.

Being a very new branch, we were short staffed. i was the note checker then one Chidiebere was the Bulk teller and my Operations manager was acting as the Vault officer too. we kept working like that until the management began to send more staff to us both senior and junior staff. which ease the work for us. when our staff strength increased, the operation manager decided to delegate roles to the staff. He made one madam Aku, the Vault officer, and one Ome the bulk teller , chidi became the front teller , while i still remain the note checker. hence i was working directly with madam Aku and Ome. Madam Aku was the most senior of all the staff.

WHAT LED TO THE SACKING OF MY BOSS

Working with the two ladies was actually great , cause they were nice. the nicest of them was madam Aku. she is tall , huge and fair in complexion. if you look at her height you will be so scared to approach her but when you come closer you will realise that she is actually very nice . madam Aku was this smiling type and very jovial. she was extremely generous. anytime she sees any junior staff in the canteen , after eating she will tell you not to pay. so that made us to always watch out to know when she is going to the canteen . Once i dont see her on her desk, i will assumed that she has gone to the canteen , and immediately i will rush and also go to the canteen. she being a slow eater, i will still meet her there. i never paid for my meal anytime we met in the canteen

Then few weeks later, i started noticing that the notes that contained the wrapper i signed and stamped were being pilfered and i was the only one that was counting bulk cash. everyday , the vault officer brought out money and gave to Ome the bulk teller, ones the money is recounted to pay a customer, she would noticed that the money will no longer be up to 100 pieces in a wrapper. some times 2000naria will be missing , some times 2500 naira. This was happening on daily basis and i would use my money to complete it . At a point i became scared. then oneday 10,000 naria was missing in one of the wraps i signed , then my operation manager came raining brim stone and fire , threathening to sack me if it repeats again.

i didnt know what to do , then i met madam AKu since she was the vault officer . she was in charge of all the money in the vault and she is also very much aware of the situation. i told her how scared i was and how strange it was .
i remembered her words vividly, she said shebi you are a Christian. i said yes. she then said, pray to your God at 12am that anybody that is doing this must be sacked. i was a kind of relieve. i took her advise. that day was a wednesday and we usually have midweek service every wednesday. i had 5000 naira on me, as i went to church with that agony , i dropped that money on the alter of my church and was crying profusely .
when the service dismissed, i went home. At about 12am in the midnight i started praying. using the same word madam Aku told me. i said God bless sack the person that has been causing me this trouble. i prayed for hours, until i had this note of victory.

the following day was a thursday, so i went to work looking victorious and excited. my operations manger didnt ask me for the 10k that missing from the money. i went to greet madam Aku as usual, and she told me that she has not been able to login since morning but every other person has logged in. then at about 10am our internal auditor came . anytime you see him in the branch just know that there is an issue. he went straight to the manager's office togther with madam Aku. we didnt suspect anything . By 6pm, when the auditor has gone, i heard madam Aku crying with a loud voice .the manager gather us and told us that the Auditor came to annouce to Aku that she has been sacked because she was involved in a fraud of 15million naria . he also collected all the banks property in her possession .

honestly i cried , because i have come to love her. she was so friendly and jovial. so i said i was going to pray to God to reserve that sacking. then i heard a thiny voice that said to me, shebi you prayed that someone that has been stealing your money should be sacked, that is the result of the prayer. i was so shocked . And from then on the shortage ceased until i left that branch

CONCLUSION
some people smile but their heart is evil
