Good morning friends. Thanks to @tenguhatanga for this contest. it's been quite a while. Here I will be telling you about my small village, and how we do traditional. though I wasn't born in the village, I never allow my parent to have peace. I always ask them about the village where I come from. some months ago I was opportune to attend a traditional marriage of my cousin. I was there I saw how things were done. and I took the image from the occasion I will love to share with you guys.

INTRODUCE MY VILLAGE

I am from a well-known community, which has turned into a small village because of the diabolical practices that they are known for. so many of it habitant fled to the nearby community some to another state and became a citizen. without plans of going back. but all these happened in the 90s now the village is gradually returning to its lost glory. my village is situated in the northern part of Akwa-Ibom State. it is known as Imbia-obong village. we have a leader. which is the Obong meaning the head of the village. we also have a youth leader and a women leader. we are well known for our vast production of palm oil and fresh palm wine, I went there when I was 12, I was given palm wine by my grandpa, and trust me it was the best. I never will forget that test.

The bride giving wine to the groom. This is done to show all present that she is indeed happy to marry him. It is a ritual done in most tribes in Nigeria.

DOWRY PROCESS

I will now be telling you the whole dowry process in m village. as the saying goes he that findeth a wife findeth a good thing. before thinking of doing your traditional wedding I will advise that you are financially buoyant. first daughters in my community are always held in high esteem, marrying a first daughter in my community is often not very easy as the man will have to go through some certain ritual that will make him qualified. you will be carefully examined for some period of months, during this time your family background will be checked, and everything concerning your health. after you pass all these tests you will be called to get the list of items you are to give to the family. but for other daughters, all these are not looked into.

below I will be telling you what and what you need to marry a woman from my village.

  1. the guy in question will go to the compound of the girl he wants to marry not empty-handed, he must go there with a bottle of wine. then tell them what took him there. this part is called Ndidiong Ufok meaning (know her compound). he will be called upon the second time if he is accepted.

  2. when he is called upon the second time, he will there and then he will show his interest in the marriage, he will come with a lot of gifts to show his seriousness. and the gift is to shut the mouths of those who will want to oppose the marriage. and they will be some who may want to cry but the gift will be used to shut their mouths. this time is known as Eno Mkpo (giving gifts)

  3. this is an important and most interesting part of the marriage. it is known as Usoro Ndo which is the marriage proper. here the bride price will be paid. and they will invite friends family, close relatives, and distant relatives to come and witness the occasion. they will be a lot to eat and drink. on this day it is always fun-filled. Feel free to come marry in my village 😃😃
