greetings my fellow steemians hope you are all fine, am so happy writing this post because the contents of this post is a eye opener for me.It helped me to know more about my origin, is important to get the knowledge of once origin.so this post is a brief history about my community.
my community is called Akipelai aka (Aki City) situated in the south part of ogbia kingdom Bayelsa State Nigeria. It took me alot of time to be able to get the informations I used in this post, I had to meet people with sound knowledge of the history of my community to come up with this post. Enjoy as u read on.
my community have alot to be talked about but I had to summarize the story. The name of the founder of my community is called AKIPELAI he is the third son of his father OKOROMA his father is one of the sons of OGBIA.
AKIPELAI was leaving together with his father OKOROMA alongside his older brother called OTUOGO they all lived happily for some years before going their separate ways in peace.
AKIPELAI found his destination, cleared the land built some houses and leaved their with his wife and two sons with others. After some time they started experiencing sudden deaths, which made Akipelai to relocate with his people and founded the current Akipelai community.
AKIPELAI is a man of peace, he never had any war or quarrel with his neighbouring communities, far and near. the most closest communities to him are EMAKALAKALA,OPUME, SABATORU, NEMBE, OTUABAGI, OTUOGO, all still in existence till date.
AKIPELAI gave birth to four sons and one daughter, namely IGBABA first son, AKARAKA second son, AKUA third son, AMABEBE last son, and a daughter called IKITI. Before the death of Akipelai he already shared his properties and also gave directives on how the community affairs should be carried out among his children.
Akipelai community started having problems after the death of the founder. The first son Igbaba was given the role of the chief priest of the land, The second son Akaraka was made King, the other two sons are part of the king bench.
After a while the three younger sons, started having problems amongst them because of their children wifes and other valuables expecially land ownership (territory). The first son which is the chief priest was always there to make peace, some of these problems are still in existence, alot of court cases but because of the grace of God and the peaceful nature of the founder no violence have taking place.
As time goes on the last two sons of Akipelai had two friends who came from a lost village called EBELA, to stay with them. Akua's friend is called OGIDI, and Amabebe' s friend is called AKI. OGIDI and AKI later had alot of children and families within the community.
Akipelai community is made up of four major families which gave birth to the numerous number of families in existence today, both Ogidi and Aki also had families under them.
The four major compounds which made up the Akipelai community are, IGBABA COMPOUND, AKARAKA COMPOUND, AKUA/OGIDI COMPOUND, AMABEBE/AKI COMPOUND, all other families are under them.
Akipelai descendants were known for possessing great spiritual powers because of the powerful deities the had, these powers made Other communities to be afraid of them. they were also known for their hard works through farming and fishing.
This deities all have there different powers, names of deities. AKASAGUA, OSAINGWU, IBUGOM, ADAH, IGBUKTAN, ATAIN-KEASURO, these were the gods guiding the community back then, the most powerful of them, well respected and celebrated till date is the AKASAGUA.
AKASAGUA is known to be the god of prosperity and war, no man of Akipelai died in a war as recorded and they grew in wealth and prosperity.
Before the people of Akipelai were known for their great powers something happened, back then the people of Nembe Kingdom were more exposed in wealth and knowledge than the Akipelai people. So Their rich men use to come to Akipelai community to show them their power and wealth by forcefully taking young girls from the village and other valuable properties.
A day came when this Nembe people came to Akipelai and went to a man's house called OSUENE to forcefully take one of his daughters, but they did not succeed because the first son of OSUENE called OTOR confronted them so they left without taking the girl.
OTOR knowing that what he has done will only anger the Nembe people and they will come back to fight them, so he quickly recruited some of his friends prepared them for battle.
The war finally started, it was not an easy war for both the Akipelai and Nembe people, they could not defeat each other. So OTOR had to seek for more powers and he had his own shrine,his own deity called OSAINGWU, him and his warriors became very powerful. they can change to all kind of wild animals they can also disappear killing them is not an option.
So some of the Akipelai warriors changed to water wild fishes,they stayed in the Nembe creeks waiting for them to come to the river to fish so they can kill them, others changed to wild animals stayed in the bush waiting for the Nembe people to come. they also have one of their warriors that can change to a wall gecko.so he will be sent to Nembe to gather information.
Any Nembe person that tried using the rivers was killed, any of them that entered the bush was killed,so they could not fish nor farm anymore as time goes on they had no food to eat, so they were dying of hunger.
The Nembe king which was called KOKO had to seek for peace, he had to make a way to meet with another king called Ekoun which his a friend to OTOR to make peace. So Ekoun had to invite Otor and king Koko to come to a neutral ground for settlement, they had a convenant that no Nembe man should ever make any attempt to hurt any Akipelai person, that convenant stands till date.
forthermore during the AKASA raid, the war between Nembe people and Queen Elizabeth of England because of palm oil, king Koko had to seek for help from the Akipelai people making Otor the chief priest of the battle and they defeated Queen Elizabeth. since then no tribe or community had made any attempt to fight with the Akipelai people.
Akipelai community is really blessed, the community have grown in population, education, wealth. moreso Akipelai is blessed politically producing two local government chairmen, house of assembly members, special advisers, commissioners and also had Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan who became a deputy governor, governor, vice president, and president of the federal Republic of Nigeria.
nevertheless Akipelai is also a crude oil producing community having four oil heads operating currently, also having a good number of persons working in the AGIP OIL COMPANY.
