Movies in the real sense of the word were primarily designed to mirror the activities, actions and inaction of leaders, opinion makers and the ordinary man in the next community, street or any other location.

Astronomical growth in urbanisation, inculturation, assimilation has to a large extent altered the entire scenario. This is reflected in the upsurge in the production of movies, especially by Nollywood etc.

Education, enlightenment, sensitization and awareness ought to be the fulcrum, the driving force in this activity, but monetary consideration seem to be the main focus of these producers. Such that most of the movies are not only poorly edited but materials also of substandard quality.

I patronize local movies, if only as a mark of independence and in the spirit of patriotism, unlike the foreign movies that promote high rate of divorce, promiscuity, crime, Drug abuse, indiscriminate use of fire arms etc.

   My 3 Favourite Movies:

1. Avenge Me Iwene My Son: (The True Story of Father Tansi); Produced by Chief Pete Edochie:

This highlights the life and times of Blessed Michael Cyprain Iwene Tansi 1903 - 1964.

John and Ezikwevi Tansi lives in Igboezunu, a pagan village and had five children; four boys and one girl. When the youngest boy was born in September 1903, the child was called Iwene, which can be translated, "Sorrow will not kill you". His father died when he was quiet young and Robert Orekiye, a relative of his mother took responsibility for Iwene who was sent to St Joseph School in Aguleri Christian village at the age of 6 years.

When Michael was 19 years old his mother died in tragic circumstances. In her village there had been increase in child mortality. Traditionally the people would turn to the medicine man for help and he would cast his charms and then point to an older member of the community and blame that person for witchcraft. The accusation was put in Ejikwevi, who was told that her magic was preserving her from death at the expense of the younger members of the community.

The penalty for this was to drink poison so that no further children would die. For her it was yielding to a necessary custom.

The news of his mother's death was a hard cross for Michael to bear.In those days it was seen more as a suicide than sacrifice. He set about the conversion of his three brothers to Christianity. They all lived and died exemplary christians. His sister Obiamma was baptised just before she died.

Father Michael Iwene Tansi was ordained a Priest in 1937. He later left after some years of missionary work in Nigeria to become a Monk at St Bernard Abbey England.

On January 20 1964, he died, hence fulfilling his vow to live and die in the Monastery. And up till today, his body is fresh as if sleeping. It was excavated after several miracles were witnessed through his intercession, brought back to Nigeria and kept at the Cathedral in Onitsha where pilgrims go to witness and pray today.

The second Movie is entitled "Brothers Apart". Led by Yul Edochie. This Movie dwelt on the disagreement that arose in a family over property acquisition, greed and avarice on the part of the elder brother who was trusted with money for investment back home and it was grossly mismanaged by the elder one back home.

And to add salt to injury, when kinsmen and relatives gathered to settle the issue among these brothers, it was discovered some were compromised by the elder brother to indict the innocent younger one.

The said money was meant to be used to put up a family house, an Agro Allied Industry with home sourced raw materials and a landed property.

Incidentally the younger brother overseas who sent the money was convicted in an Asian country for drug related offence and he sent the said money back home so that when eventually he served out the prison sentence, he would come back home to settle down. His cheating elder brother reasoned he would die in prison, not knowing that providence had a different thing in stock for him.

The Third Movie is "Dumebi In School".

Anchored by Ezenwa Collins Chinedu and centred on a business tycoon Emmy Okonkwo who reasoned that getting married to an educated, cultured and polished lady meant marrying a public woman who may have multiple immoral entanglements with other men.

Instead he headed to the rural community to marry an illiterate local maiden daughter of a Catechist. Unfortunately this lady Dumebi did not match his social status. Yet he was not relenting in efforts to build her up. He sent her to an elite Private primary school to commence her educational journey. She was uncout, stubborn, mischievous. So enfantile in behaviour and actions.

Even as an adult married woman, she turned to a bully to her class mates and even the teachers. She would look at them to their faces and insult them, call them all manner of derogatory names
and damn the consequences. At each point, the husband would drive to the school in his state if the art automobiles, pleading for the wife, yet she would commit similar offence the next day. She flouted the schools rules and regulations with reckless abandon and they indulged her, no doubt due to her circumstances and of course the influence and deep pocket of the husband who, from time to time sponsored one programme or the other in the school like quiz and debate competitions.

Every now and then the husband would drive to the school to Dumebi's rescue, petting, caring, urging and encouraging her to concentrate on her studies and be obedient to her teachers, all to no avail. She was a thorn on the flesh of all including the husband's security guard, her private driver and the school authorities.

One good thing I so much admired about the husband is the depth of of patience, tolerance he exhibited just to keep the marriage. To me it was amazing.

           My Favourite Actor

Chief Pete Edochie captured everything that was of interest to me in the epic MOVIE. His legendary maturity, calmness, firmness and fatherly disposition, even under pressure singled him out as an actor with Pedigree.

With regard to brothers apart, I doff my hat for Chinelo the only daughter of the family of the feuding brothers who came from time to time, asking the elder brother to give his younger brother the money he sent to him and or the investment made, as agreed by two of them. It got to a point that she looked at the brother eye ball to eye ball, reprimanding him over his inhuman treatment of his younger brother. According to Chinelo, such betrayal would never go unpunished when the elder brother demanded the document where he signed that he collected the money from the younger brother.

Recall, the younger brother had with him the bank statements of the money in hard currency he transferred home to the brother for the said projects which he did not execute.

The Moral Lessons are huge: (Blessed Michael Tansi) said; "How happy the world would be if men would learn to live one another, to bear with one another".

That is my take on the Moral Lesson thereoff.
