What is Alzheimer's Disease

Alzheimer's disease is a Brian disease that gradually destroys memory and cognitive cells of the brain, and it leads to dementia which affects the persons activities and communication with loved ones.

In some cases the person forgets so many things and acts abnormally sometimes.it often affects those in thier old age of 60-85yrs.

Causes of Alzheimer's disease

The main cause of Alzheimer's disease is storage of protein in the brain cells which is not proper, some of these proteins are called amyloid and tau and the form plaques and tangle around the brain cells.

Another cause of Alzheimer's disease is hereditary or family history, most family have a record of Alzheimer's disease as a result some grand children or great grand children will inherit it.

Another cause of Alzheimer's disease is down syndrome, down syndrome can cause plaques around the brain cells which will lead to dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

Head injury which can be as a result of severe accident can cause Alzheimer's disease, it can cause a type of deletion of history and memories in the brain as a result of dead brain cells.

Hypertension can also cause Alzheimer's disease because it reduces blood circulation from the heart to the brain.

In most cases the signs comes up gradually and it usually unnoticeable but in some cases the signs are easily detected.

Some people who develope Alzheimer's disease has difficulties in thinking, while some of them became confused during the evening hours of the day.

How to manage or care for an Alzheimer's patients

Honestly it can be stressful to live with an Alzheimer's patients, I can remember years past when my grandma had Alzheimer's issue honestly it wasn't an easy task, at a time everyone else left her on her own because it was becoming worse because she refused to take her medications.

But one quality that can help us care for an Alzheimer's patients without becoming stressed out is patience and endurance, be calm with them and they will love your care.

Always make sure they visit the hospital for check up and make sure they always take their medications.

source

Always help them to control their diet because obesity can increase the problem of dementia.
Make sure you involve them in whatever you want to do for them like bathing eating and other activities so as not to get them frustrated which can affect you as the caregiver.

Do not just walk to them at anytime of the day for anything but have a proper schedule of when you can care for them in peace and they will comply.

Conclusion

Honestly it is a difficult task to care for elderly ones or those who have chronic illness but when it is handled properly and you see them happy as they continue living it also brings happiness to your face.

I appreciate you all for stopping by.
