Hello there, welcome to my blog. I will be writing on the topic called "water". This is the first of a three part series. Stay tuned and enjoy yourself.

What is Water?

Water is a substance that is gotten from the Earth's hydrosphere and all living organisms. It has some certain characteristics such as

  • Inorganic
  • Transparent
  • Tasteless
  • Odourless
  • Colourless

It is also known by its chemical formula H2O. This chemical formula shows that the water molecules have two hydrogen bonds and one oxygen bond and they are connected through a means known as Covalent Bonding.

One of the qualities of water is that it is automatically vital to life for both humans and animals. And the funny thing is that it is not a substitute for food, it doesn't give energy, and other micronutrients.

The name water is given to "H2O" when it is in liquid state at the standard conditions for pressure and temperature.

Water has many physical states at which it can be recognized. It appears in liquid, solid, gaseous, and cloudy states. When in liquid state the water molecules can move freely, but can be put in a place (for instance in a bottle). When in solid state the water molecules can't move freely as the are held together. In gaseous state it moves along in the air, most times you might not even see it when it's moving. And the clouds are water from the gas state (gaseous water) that condenses in the Earth's atmosphere.

Why the body needs water

The human body is made up of 60 percent water (for babies 80%) while the blood in our bodies is made up of 90 percent of water. This show how important water is to the human body.

We need to be taking water regularly to maintain our body system. It helps the cells and organs in our bodies to function at optimal levels.

If we get dehydrated most of the time, it affects the ability of joints to absorb shocks which then leads to pains at those areas. Drinking water leads to less pain in our joints.

Drinking water causes saliva to always form in our mouth. This help the mouth to take in food easily and make the process of digestion to be accelerated. Also, during digestion it helps the bowels to work properly.

Without adequate water there won't be lots of saliva in the mouth which can in turn lead to much friction and damage in the mouth area. Also, lack of water can lead to digestive issues like constipation, and a stomach that is full of acid, which can then lead to and increase to the risk oh heartburns and ulcer.

When we perform some activities like eating or exercising, we tend to produce waste. Taking water helps to bring about the wastes in an efficient manner.

As previously stated our blood is made up of 90 percent water. Getting dehydrated makes our blood to become thicker which can leads to high blood pressure. But drinking water maintains the required water levels in our blood and thus maintain our blood pressure.

There's so much more benefits of water to our bodies, but I will limit it to the above stated.
