In this contest I would talk about graphics design and show a basic example by doing a simple graphics design.

What is Graphics Design

Graphics design is a way of communicating with an audience visually.

From the definition above we can see that there is a message (like a preacher) and you are trying to communicate that message to someone or a group of people.

There is a certain way that graphics designer think. Because graphic design is all about solving problems using visual elements.

When performing a design project the questions that one should be asking is:

“What is that problem that I want to solve?”

“What is that message that I want to communicate?”

“Whom do I want to communicate with?”

And finally,

“How do I communicate the message in a way that the message is passed across effectively?”

The term graphics design is a compound word which has two words,

Graphics and Design.

GRAPHICS is simply refered to as all the visual elements that make up a design. By this definition it means all the visible element you can find in a design.

It comprises of,

• The colour
• The type
• The image
• The shape
• The icon
• The background
• The texture

And every other thing visibly shown on the design.

DESIGN is the principles that guide you to arrange visual elements (graphics) whenever you are in the process of a creating a graphic design.

There are different principles of Grapics Design, they include

• Hiercahy
• Contrast
• Movement
• Repitition
• Alignment
• Emphasis, etc.

All these principles, when combined together, gives you a very good design.

I shall be doing a graphics design of a basic flier. To perform this, I will make use of a design environment (design tool) to do the flier.

To begin a design project, you need a design environment or tool to aid you in making a design. There are different design environment such as Canva (popular), PixelLab, etc. You can search for them and make use of them.

On the design environment, you begin on an empty space, so you clear everything that is previously there and kinda start afresh.

Then you start inputting the design elements. The elements used is based on the graphic you want to create and the message you are trying to pass across.

Then you begin to align the elements in an orderly manner so as to make it professional and for it to communicate your message effectively. Make sure that a the necessary details are given so as to get the needed reactions from your audience.

This is the basic flier design that I just created to convey a message for anyone who wants to make money from the comfort of their laptops.
