Exercise is an activity that increases the heart rate at a higher level than it normally is.

Exercise is a component of physical activity. It is one of the best ways to preserve one's physical and mental health.

Having regular exercise provides a lot of benefits to both the body and the mind. This doesn't depend on the intensity of the exercise as it can be one of low like a slow jugging to one of high intensity like lifting weights.

By doing exercise everyday you help yourself prevent your body from a wide range of diseases and generally issue that are health related.


Types of Exercise

Generally exercise has been classified into three different types, namely,

  1. Aerobic
  2. Anaerobic
  3. Agility training.

I shall describe each of these types below.

Aerobic Exercise:

Aerobic exercise is one which seeks to improve on the usage of oxygen by the body. The exercises in this category are usually at intensity levels that are average, but they take longer time to perform.

When performing aerobic exercises, they make use of large muscle groups. A session includes a warm-up, doing the exercise for at most 30 mins, then having a break.

Anaerobic Exercise:

This is a type of exercise that is mainly used to increase the strength, muscle mass, and power of the body. It is different from aerobic exercise as it doesn't focus on the use of energy by the body. They include weight lifting, rope skipping (one of high intensity), isometrics, etc.

Anaerobic exercises are of high intensity and they usually don't last up to 5 mins during performance. When trying to build body mass and improve all round strength, it is better to do anaerobic exercise as it is very effective.

Agility training is a type of exercise that seeks to improve the ability of a person maintain control when in full speed, slowing down, or trying to change directions.

This type of exercise is usually performed by people in sports where speed, positioning, coordination, balance is at it's core.

Rewards from exercising


These are some of the benefits one can get by engaging in exercise. There are lots of them, but I'll be listing just four.

  • Helps the body system to lower blood pressure significantly.

  • Helps improve the count for red blood cells, thereby making the transportation of oxygen enhanced.

  • Gives an enhanced stamina to a person, as it helps increase the body's ability to store energy molecules (such as fat and carbohydrates) within the muscles.

  • Helps to reduce the risk of being attack by diseases such as cardiovascular disease (CVD), diabetes, and stroke.

  • Improves the overall strength of the body.

  • Help in increasing the way an individual can maintain control of themselves in different situations.

Risks from not exercising


By not exercising, these are the risks that one can be susceptible to,

  • One can develop cardiovascular disease (CVD) unknown to them.

  • One can develop type 2 diabetes increasingly.

  • It can make one to develop cancer rapidly. One can also discover osteoporosis.

  • All these individually or combined can lead to premature death because of their causes and the complications due to having them.


Finding the time to exercise

One of the hindrance to doing regular exercise is Time. So many people are so busy with their work schedule that they find it difficult to have time to exercise.

However, one can fit in an exercise in such a way that it flows with their busy schedule.

  • Most time we enter vehicles to our places of work. We can try to walk to our place of work or use a bicycle. If our work place is very far, we can look for a suitable place to park, while working the remaining distance.

  • Also for those who don't have cars, but commute to work daily, you can decide to stop somewhere of a trekable distance and walk from there.

  • If you are in a work place where there's an elevator, instead of always using the elevator, try using the staircase provided.

  • Another easy thing but useful is engaging in vigorous house chores, taking care of the gardens, etc.

During your spare time one can do some exercises that fits this time and which they in turn love.

  • You can go for brisk walk for at most 30 mins for up to five times a week.

  • You can do the regular jugs with friends in the morning or alone, or you can simply go for a walk with your dogs.

  • You can also try swimming once or twice a week, that's if you haven't been at it.

When a person starts exercising regularly, he begins to learn new things from the exercise and within himself. It is necessary that start with low intensity and begin to scale up in intensity, then also try to make a weekly session.

One of the best ways to exercise is by combining aerobic and anaerobic exercises with agility training. However, it is best to perform any type of exercise and not do any.

It is also of note to always drink plenty of water during and after exercises. Incase someone has any health condition, it is best to consult a doctor, so as not to aggravate the health problem.
