Portharcourt is a city in Rivers State, Nigeria popularly known as the Garden City.

The city which is the headquarters of Rivers State-The Treasure Base of the Nigeria is known for her diverse culture. Located in the southern part of Nigeria with mostly rainy season.

CULTURE
The city Portharcourt has in conglomeration diverse culture embodied in her as it harbors all local government area of Rivers State. We have the Ijaws, Ibanis, ikwerrians, Ogonis, Abuans, Etches etc.

ECONOMIC POWER
Portharcourt which is the most headquarters of Rivers State is the oil well of Nigeria. As it is the headquarters of all the LGAs that produces crude oil in Rivers State.

POPULAR PLACES IN THE CITY

Government Reserved Area (GRA) - this is part of the city that is reserved by government for Government parastatals, business buildings, For the elites etc. Mostly in this area are those that are famous and wealthy. You barely see the poor around this axis because means of living is expensive and so accommodation is. Notable structures in GRA-Salvation Ministries, NDDC Building, Genesis Centre, Jevinik, Casablanca (A night Club), House of Assembly Quarters, NIMc Building, INEC state Building etc.

DIOBU- This where the common/Poor or middle class resides. More like a ghetto. Livelihood is cheap. This is the most populated part of the city. You find more markets, Banks, wholesale shops around this part of the city .

TOWN- Just like Diobu, Town is closer to the State Secretariat building which gives them more opportunity to grab than the Diobu residents . In this place you have the Bonny/Nembe water side jetty that is beautifully structured by the state Government, you have the Sharks mini stadium etc.

Other places places include Choba, Ozuoba, eagle island, mile 1,2,3,4, Rumuokoro, Rumuokwuta, NTA, Odili Road, Ogbunabali etc.

THE PLEASURE PARK
The pleasure park is a government owned pack located at Rumuola part of Obia/Akpor Local Government Area. It is so beautiful and it is an amusement center with a cinema.

SPAR
This is contemporary market, with cinema. It is one of the highest patronized place in the City. They deal on eateries, cloths, Home utensils, phone selling, Bar Business. It’s more like a departmental store .

FLYOVERS
You can’t mention Portharcourt city without mentioning the numerous flyover construction on going by the state Government which this named GARRISON FLYOVER is completed at the heart of the city.

The City has three 3 universities namely Rivers State University, Ignatius Ajuru
University of Education, University of Portharcourt. Also a polytechnic and college.

The taxi Colour for the City is BLue and white.

It is an economic hub as Nigerians, foreigners and other Africans are doing business in the city peaceful.

Portharcourt people are hospitable.
