Introduction

This is to inform all SteemAlive members that we are ditching Whatsapp for telegram. The community is growing so rapidly that our Whatsapp group is now filled to capacity - 257 users. Lots of newbies cant join because there is no space for them.

We use Whatapp between Monday and Friday, then the group is locked for the weekend. We then use Discord every Saturday and Sunday. This is to ensure that we are active on both platforms. But since the Whatsapp group is now full, we will use Telegram to replace Whatsapp. Telegram groups can accommodate at least 20,000 users. So it would be ideal for our growing population.

I have used Telegram for a while now and discovered one major issue with Telegram groups - people adding you randomly to groups you do n0t want to join or know nothing about. Right now, i have been added to more than 50 random groups and there is no way to easily quit those groups other than by one after the other. The notifications come in bulk and now its a nuisance. Take a look below:

Some groups I was randomly added into

So to prevent that headache for our steemAlive members, I will make a quick tutorial that will help you set up your telegram account such that only people in your phone book - people you know - can add you to groups.

How to stop people from adding you to Telegram groups

There is simple telegram feature that can prevent people who are not in your phonebook from adding you to telegram groups. Here is how to set it up.

1.. Open your telegram app (you should have created an account too)
2.. Go to Settings
3.. The Open Privacy and Secutrity check image below

4.. Click on Groups
5.. Select My Contacts

With this setting, only people whose contact you saved can add you to Telegram groups. This saves the headache of having to exit too numerous groups one after the other - plus the burden of attending to thousands of notifications.

Conclusion

We will be moving to Telegram on Monday 12/4/2021. Before then, we will drop our Telgram group link so that all our members will join us. As you install the app and prepare to move with us, this guide can be of great help to you. We appreciate your supporting this move. Thank you @steemcurator01.

Thanks for the information sir

@focusnow, I've been expecting this post for a while now, some of my recruits had not been able to join due to the fact that the group is filled up. Thanks for the teaching, it's very helpful. I had actually experienced auto add up to a group by unknown users. Now I know what to do.
Thank you.
Best regards

Interesting. I have been added to so many groups I don't know. Let me do this . Thanks a lot.

Right move , whatsapp is limited unlike Telegram and new members can always find previous messages.

Very important that we move there. If not for any other reason, for the sake of those who are joining daily. So that they can still find all the information discussed before they joined. Thank you for this timely information. @focusnow

Thank you @focusnow for the timely advice in form of a lesson. I'm very sure this would be surely implemented by the community members.

Thanks so much for this information... I was having this issue, I'll implement this info with immediate effect
