Introduction

If you are a newbie reading this post, I want to use this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to you once again. You have made a great choice to join Steemit and explore the opportunities on this platform. I wish you success in advance as you take off here with your very first post.

For you to really make a success of your Steemit career, there are some important things you should be doing and there are still things you should avoid doing. Some newbies learn it the hard way through making mistakes. However, the essence of this post is to help you avoid the mistakes that will hinder your progress and show you how to get it all right. Now let me share with you 12 important tips you should take serious.

1. Be Patient and Learn fast

You have heard people say that knowledge is power. On Steemit here, knowledge is much more than that. The things you know about this platform will form a Foundation for your progress or lack of it. So please learn patiently and fast. If someone introduced you to this platform, that person is automatically your mentor. Do not stay far from him/her. Ask questions, and follow their instructions.

Some newbies make the mistake of doing things their own way. For example, after your introduction post, your mentor will show you in which community to make your next post, the tags to use and how to format your post. If you rush ahead to publish without mentorship, you will likely make mistakes.

When it comes to earnings, you cannot compare your earnings to other users that have spent years on the platform. Your earnings will likely not be as big as their own. But with time, as you master the platform and do the right things, you will grow. Steemit is not a get-rich-quick scheme and money does not fall from heaven. You need to work hard and be patient. Growth is naturally gradual. The same thing is obtainable here.

2. Content is King

Steemit is a content publishing platform with thousands of writers from all walks of life. If you must succeed here, you have to produce quality articles. A quality article is usually detailed, creative and accurate. Avoid short articles. Generally, each of your posts should not be less than 300 words long. If you are not sure of your article length, you can check it with this WordCounter tool. Just copy your article and paste it into the box and the tool will count it for you. If you publish short articles, you will be muted in most communities.

3. Do not Steal. Plagiarism is forbidden

If you steal on Steemit, you will be caught and banned. Plagiarism is when you copy someone's article, text, quotes or use their picture in your work as if it is your own. So on Steemit, you must use your own pictures for your articles. Ofcourse, you can take pictures from free sites such as Pixabay. Each time you use a picture or text that is not yours, you need to put the source or web page where you got it from. You will learn more about it in Achievement 3.

Steemit only rewards original content. So please, as much as possible, use your own pictures or texts for your articles. 85% of your work should be your own. You are free to use images from license free sites such as Pixabay and remember to put the source. Ask your mentor for more assistance on this

image.png

4. Do not mention other users unnecessarily

You mention other users by including @ and their username in your post. For example @ijelady. When you mention other users in your articles, it should be for a genuine reason. Apart from it, you are not supposed to mention other users or even the steem curator accounts. If you do, it is considered spam and it is frowned upon.

Some new users believe that they will get votes by mentioning other users or even the Steemcurator accounts. This is wrong. Please mention only when there is a reason for doing so. It is not wrong though to always mention your mentor so that they can easily see what you are doing.

5. Do not publish more than 3 articles in 24 hours

While we advice you to publish consistently, you need to watch how many articles you are post on your page. It is recommended that you publish not more than 3 articles in 24 hours. When you have too many articles published over a short time, the quality of your articles will probably be compromised. Making a quality article takes time and efforts. So take your time to do quality work, not so much about quantity.

Two or three quality articles in a day is realizable if you are your own boss. Trying to make too many articles - like 4 or more - in 24 hours is generally not recommended. Making few quality articles is better than numerous average articles.

6. Build relationships through Engagement

Engagement is as important as anything here on Steemit. So please, read other people's posts and make quality comments on them. It is equally advisable to acknowledge comments on your own posts by replying them. Please, avoid short comments like the following:

  • Nice article
  • Waooh, beautiful house
  • I love your post
  • Beautiful flower
  • Fine contribution

Be creative with your comments. Reply a certain part of the post. Ask a question. Write your opinion or experience about the topic you just read. When you form a habit of always commenting meaningfully for other users, they will return the favor by checking and engaging with your own posts.

Also, the Steemit team tends to reward users that engage more with others than those that do not. So its not just about writing and posting. Reading and commenting on other user's posts is a step in the right direction.

7. Expand your Niche

It is possible that you have a niche or a particular subject you are an expert in. Maybe you love to write about health or sports, or any other subject. It is good to publish where you do well. But, you can learn to expand your subjects. For example, Instead of publishing strictly health articles, you can learn to write on other subjects like business, nature, lifestyle, gardening, etc.

When you write on many different subjects, you attract a wide range of readers to your blogs. You also increase your chances of getting support for your articles. All you need to do is to read and research more. Do not limit yourself to one or two subject areas. Instead, expand and write on many topics. When you do, you will earn more experience, audience - and possibly more support. Check the post below to see 10 sample article types you can write.

8. Be Consistent

If you have spent up to 7 days on Steemit, and you do not have at least 7 articles now, you are not consistent. On Steemit, consistency is key. You need to publish and engage with other peoples posts regularly. It is recommended that you publish at least one post and make 5 quality comments each day. If you follow this schedule, you will grow faster than your peers. Besides, publishing one post each day is another way to gurantee daily income on Steemit.

So if you are reading this article, up to 7 days old on Steemit, with less than 7 articles, you are not consistent. Work on your schedule and improve it.

9. Get updates regularly

Many projects and activities go on in this platform. It is important to always stay informed. Other wise you will miss out on time-sensitive information. So try to be abreast with what is happening on Steemit. An important way to do that is to always check @steemitblog for official updates. For example, we currently have a project going on. This project is called Steemit Engagement. You will get updates about it and other important activities through the Steemit blog handle above.

Stay in touch with your mentor who will likely feed you with other important updates available. Also try to stay active in one or two communities. Always visit those community accounts to learn about contests and other important updates. For SteemAlive community, always check @steemalive page.

10. Join the Clubs

After the first 7 days, your introduction post will pay out. Power up that your first earning so that you can qualify to be in club5050. There are club5050, club75 and club100. To be in club5050, you power up at least 50% of your earnings in the last 1 month. If you power up at least 75% of your earnings in the last two months, you are in club75. Club100 are users that powered up all their earnings in the last 3 months. If you are not at least in club5050, it will be difficult to get support.

If you have some fiat to spend, you can start fast. Buy steem and power up right way to join club5050. Please consult your mentor for assistance on powering up your earnings.

11. Participate in Contests

Contests give you the opportunity to learn, meet other users and even earn. Several communities host weekly contests. You will be required to write on a particular topic in order to stand a chance of winning a prize. Right now, the Steemit engagement challenge is being hosted by 7 different communities Monthly. Check the following links

12. Use the right tags

Tags are used to categorize posts published on Steemit. Each post you make is allowed to have up to 5 tags. Apart from submitting your posts to a specific category, tags are also used to gain visibility. For example, curators use special tags to find your articles. If you use the wrong tags, your post will not likely be seen by curators.

Curator teams are choosen monthly. Each team announce the tag they want you to use for each of your articles. Try to use those tags based on your article topic. Below are the tags announced by the community curator teams for June 2022.

Thank you for this post.

I have actually been on this platform for almost 8months, I still feel like a newbie.
It always seems like I'm invisible here.
It's quite discouraging and it makes me want to stay away from steemit.

Well, I think I have figured out things I wasn't doing right.
