Introduction

In the world today, there have so many questions posed that has no answer and day by day science and technology finds a way to answer these questions.

Question of life existing outside planet earth, questions about the universe, question that gets one thinking outside the tiny box. All these questions leads to what is called Astronomy which deals with the detailed study of all things that goes beyond the earth’s atmosphere.

Astronomy a branch of earth science studies the stars, the sun, the moon and other planetary bodies making use of laws, terminology and concepts in other to explain the phenomenon of evolution and origin.

One who studies Astronomy is known as an Astronomer.

There are about four (4) different sub-areas of astronomy which encompasses various branches.

● Astrometry

This has to do with calculations and measurements. Scientists applies this to get the exact movements of stars and other celestial bodies.

● Astrobiology

Biology is the study of life, it is made up of two words the bio which means life and logos which means study. Astro on the other hand refers to the outer space and heavenly or celestial bodies.
Astrobiology therefore means the study of life outside earth also known as extraterrestrial life. It is the study of the existence of life in space and other planets.

● Astrophysics

This makes use of the principles of physics to study the celestial body. Physics in layman terms is the study of matter, energy, space and time.
Scientists apply these methods and techniques to learn about the positions and movement of the stars and other planets in other to better explain some of the questions I mentioned at the beginning of this article.

● Astrogeology

Geology in layman’s term is simply the study of the earth. It encompasses the study of physical substances of the earth of both the present and the past. From geology history of the past and possibly answer to present questions can be gotten. Astrogeology thus studies the physical and solid body of outer space in other to compare and get answers on evolution on earth.

Conclusion

The study of astronomy has aided science education, improved medicine by enhancing its tools, industries and a whole lot more. It also answers questions of our origin and evolution.
