THE POWER OF YOUR MIND

INTRODUCTION

I'll be talking about how powerful the mind is today.
Chances are, you may have heard of all I'll be writing about in this blog, but please be open minded, you never know, you might learn something new, or have something to contribute in the comment section.
This is super simplified, for more complex resources, check Bob Proctor online to get more.
Let's get into it.

WHAT IS THE MIND?

Merriam Webster puts it this way.
"The mind is the part of a person that feels, thinks, perceives, wills, and especially reasons"

Today no one can accurately tell where the mind is located.
No one has seen it, whether or not it's an organ in the body we can't confirm.
One thing we can all agree on today is that the mind exists.
Since no one has seen the mind, I'll be representing the mind in the diagram below.

As you can see, the mind has two parts to it, the conscious and subconscious mind.
Both have different functions explained in the latter part of this blog.
You can see in the diagram above, the mind is bigger than the body, so it is in real life.
The subconscious mind is also our emotional mind, we are emotional beings.
The combination of our thoughts (conscious mind), feelings (subconscious mind), and actions (body) determines our attitudes towards life.

The diagram above is something I learnt from Bob Proctor in a seminar few years ago.
You can check him up on Google to get more about the mind.

The diagram above is a sketch I made from my notepad, so forgive the drawing.

The purpose of this blog is to share with you how powerful this awesome machine (the mind) is and how it affects our everyday life.
Maybe if we get a grip of how the mind works, we can then maximise it's potential to the fullest.

I agree with Napoleon Hill when he said "whatever the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve, regardless of how many times you may have failed in the past"

BREAKING DOWN THE MIND

There are two parts to the mind to make it whole, namely;

a) The conscious mind

This section of the mind is our intellectual part, our reasoning faculty, where you are aware of your being.
The conscious mind gets information through our five senses, touch, smell, sight, taste, and hearing.
This part of the mind controls only 5% of our being.
The conscious mind is the filter to our subconscious mind, even more so the gatekeeper, for it can distinguish what is right from what is wrong, what is good from what is bad.
The conscious mind is our thinking mind, it is where decisions are made whether or not to take action.
I mentioned that the conscious mind is the filter to our subconscious mind because with it you can impress upon your subconscious mìnd what you desire for yourself by way of repetition.

b) The subconscious mind

As the name implies, below consciousness.
The subconscious mind controls our feelings, our thoughts and behaviours.
It is also where our core beliefs and habits are stored.
Just as the conscious mind reponds to our five senses, the subconscious mind responds only to repetition, that's the only language understood by the subconscious mind.
For example, using the conscious mind, you can learn new information by reading, but the subconscious mind learns through repetition.
When you repeat an act over and over again, it becomes second nature, now the body knows how to do the act without thinking, for instance driving.
Remember when you were learning how to drive?
You were so conscious and cautious of everything, you can't even afford to look elsewhere except the road ahead of you, now it has become second nature that you can afford to make calls while on the wheel.
This was possible because you repeated the act over and over again, now it's become habitual, now muscle memory.

That's how we form habits, through repetition.
This is one of the functions of the subconscious mind.
Good or bad habits the subconscious mind can't tell the difference, as long as the activity is repeated over and over again, it acts on it immediately.
The way to change bad habits is by replacing it with good ones.

MORE ON HOW POWERFUL THE MIND IS

We've all changed the password on our phones or computers at some point in time, the first few times of us unlocking the phone or computer, we tend to use the old password before realising we've changed it.
This happens because we've been unlocking our gadget using the old password too many times that our body can now act independently of our conscious mind, a typical example of the subconscious mind controlling 95% of our everyday life.

Now when you consciously (using the 5% percent to influence the 95%) start using the new password over and over again, it now automatically overrides in our subconscious mind the old password previously used for our phones or computers.

Because the subconscious mind controls 95% of our being, the conscious mind don't stand a chance versus the subconscious mind because it only controls 5% of our being.

The subconscious mind can be likened to a garden, you can sow in it whatever you want, it gives back to you whatever you sow be it good or bad.

Because the subconscious mind cannot differentiate our imaginations from reality, we should be aware of our imaginations.

SUMMARY

To make the most of our minds, we shoud be able to use our conscious mind to impress upon our subconscious mind anything we wish to learn or have by way of repetition.
It takes 30 days to form a habit, it takes 90 days to form a lifestyle, all done by way of repettition.
More indept explanation on the subconscious in my latter blog.
