Greetings my fellow steemians. Its my pleasure to be here once again. Today, i will be writing on drug abuse and its effects.

Many people today are addicted to drug, both male and female, young and old but more especially youths.

They always think that its what makes them real men, without knowing that is its effects are disastrous.

So today,i will be writing on drug abuse and its effects.

Meaning of drug abuse

Drug abuse can be referred to as the wrongful use of medicine

Or

Taking drugs without doctors prescription.

Or

Taking certain chemicals or drugs for the purpose of getting pleasurable effect on the brain.

Causes of drug abuse

Drugs are abused for the following reasons;
*Drugs are abused out of curiosity and peer pressure especially among children and young adult.
*The use of prescribed drug for pain relief may now turn to recreational use and become addictive eg taking more than two tablet of paracetamol or tramadol for another purpose other than pain relief.

*Orally in form of pills eg tramadol
*Through the vain in form of injestion
*By inhaling in form of smoke via snorting into the blood vessel of the nose eg smoking of weed, snuff, cigaratte etc.

Short term effect

The exact effect vary among individuals and also depend on the drug, dosage and delivery method. eg

*It raises blood temperature and increases alertness e.g nicotine intake from cigarette raises blood pressure and increases alertness.
*It can cause drowsiness, shallow breathing and constipation.

Long term effect

*Inability to stop once one is addicted to a particular drug.
*Poor work on accademic perfomance
*Noticeable change in appearance
*Loss of interest in former enjoyable activities
*Depression
*Anxiety
*Panic disorder

NOTE:It is easy to start but once you get addicted to it, it becomes difficult or impossible to break free from.

Conclusion

Drug abuse is dangerous. It is true that some people abuse drugs unknowingly, but whether we abuse drugs knowingly or unknowingly,the end is always disastrous.
