TECHNOLOGY/COMPUTING: Getting Along with Microsoft Word

INTRODUCTION

Today many people have come to see the need of learning how to use the computer in making up documents that they know they will definitely be in need of maybe in the near future. Nowadays, most of what we do are computerized. In business today computer help man perform many of the tasks assigned to them.
The need to learn and acquire knowledge in areas such as, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point Presentation, CorelDRAW, Photoshop, etc. Is now enormous and any community without individuals who know how to access and operate the above mentioned applications can be said to be underdeveloped in terms of computer accessibility. Nevertheless, many find it difficult to understand how to use these applications. This article will help them catch up with the necessary and basic things they should know when using Microsoft Word to create a document.

The Basics

When you open a Microsoft soft application, you will be facing the welcome screen. This screen displays the templates readily made by the Microsoft Office. Among them you will see the Blank Document tile. There, you click the blank document to open a new window where you will see the user interface. What is on the user interface:

  • The Blank Page.
  • The Ribbon.
  • The Rulers
  • The Title Bar
  • The Horizontal Scroll Bar and
  • The Vertical Scroll Bar

BLANK PAGE:

The Blank Page is the page where you type your words, it is the page which you work on and can print it out in hardcopy for official use.
What can be done on the blank page:
The blank page can be sized:- The page can be sized either by using the ready made sizes of paper or customizing the paper to fit what you want to do. Ready made or standard sizes of paper include the following: A5, A4, A3, Letter, legal, etc.
To set paper size go to the PAGE LAYOUT tab, then click on paper size, after clicking on the paper size command the drop down dialog box appears where the paper sizes are displayed. So that you can select the option that best suits your requirement.

  • Color setting:- Paper color can be set, this setting in some version of Word Document, it exist in the page layout tab while in other versions it can be found in the Design tab.

  • Water Mark:- The water mark is found in the Design tab, and can be customized. Under water mark in the design tab.

  • Margins:- In Microsoft Word Document words can be typed on margins, we have the left and right margins likewise, the up and down margins. These margins can be manually formatted to fit your requirement or alternatively, you go to page layout tab and then click on the margins command to display the drop down dialog box, and then margins like narrow, wide, and others will appear for you to choose the one you need.

THE RIBBON:

The Ribbon carries all the commands needed to work on Microsoft Word documents. In the ribbon commands are arranged under tabs and groups. The tabs include:

  • File tab
  • Home tab.
  • Insert tab
  • Page Layout tab.
  • Design tab.
  • Mailing tab.
  • View tab.
  • Review tab.

In cases where table, pictures or text boxes are inserted the other tabs know as contextual tabs will appear on the tab list. This includes the design contextual tab and the layout tab.

  • The Rulers are manually use to format the margins on the page.
  • The title bar displays the name of the document used.
  • The Horizontal and the vertical scroll bar is used to display other parts of the document which is not displayed due to the size of the screen.

CONCLUSION

The Microsoft Word is a very vital tool.
It is much easier to for making up documents.
Most companies today use it too.

Yeah, it is quite easy to learn Microsoft Word, the application was designed in such a way that anyone can easily learn.

On this known age of technology and kind of world we
live in which documents creation become very crucial , basic knowledge of computer and most especially getting use to ms word wouldn't be a bad move .

You are right, that is why many applicants nowadays will always include that they have knowledge of Ms word in their Curriculum vitae.
